It's 3:45 local and I noticed Delta Flight 9926 over Pennsylvania headed towards JFK from CVG.........Is this a special ferry flight or is it a regular one? Anybody know why they do this if it's a normal occasion?........They have two or three 738 flights out of JFK now so it shouldn't be so hard to get a 738 there ......Unless of course it's a special situation.

Not normal, but sometimes regular flights go out with a 9000 flight number. Could be an equipment sub, a change in the departure time, who knows. But I have flown a few flights at Delta where it was a normal revenue flight but we were under a 9000 flight number. The funny thing is the passengers never know the change, as we use the original flight number in making announcements, at the gate, etc.
