Over the last year Low Cost Flights at East Midlands Airport seem to have stagnated and where other UK airports are seeing phenominal growth EMA is standing still.
In the summer East Midlands saw passenger numbers drop a small number for the first time in two or three years.
easyJet has been expanding phenominally at other airports like LTN, STN and LGW and also at Bristol which was also inherited as an ex-GO base before the take over. easyJet have only two aircrafts based at the airport dropping both Barcelona and Glasgow from their routes to be replaced by Cologne and Rome. They seem to have shown no interest in expanding services at EMA.
Also BMI Baby seems a very similar story, a few years back this was there primary base with 6-8 aircraft based there and on the surface it may appear they fly to as many destinations but many of these routes are only operated 2-4 times a week instead of the daily services they use to offer. Many of their aircrafts have been switched to CWL, MAN and now it look likely EMA is going to suffer further losses to BHX. (How many aircraft are based at EMA?)
Ryanair has launched services to Dublin, Murcia and Gerona in the last few months but these flights are not on any big numbers. Also Ryanair has decided to go head to head with easyJet on the Rome route which they are due to launch soon.
If EMA likely to become a future Ryanair Hub?
What is the problem with East Midlands and why are LCC not expanding here, do you think easyJet or BMI Baby may even pull out?

Can't see either BMIBaby or Easyjet pulling out, however BMI did transfer a couple of services from EMA from the Baby brand to the Mainline BMI brand. Part of this reason is that BMI are a household name in that region and is instilled in the minds of the locals because the Head Office is in nearby Donnington Hall in Derby.
I think it odd that EMA isn't doing better, but maybe the demise of Duo earlier this year has shown that the catchment area for BHX and EMA isn't as good or strong has had been thought.
If you compare BHX/EMA with MAN/LPL you will see that the nortern region is doing much better than the midlands for the LCC's. And with more and more Full Service Long Haul carriers opting for MAN, maybe the proximity of BHX and EMA to London is the main problem?
