Holas

I have received the next sad info at the beginning of this week and was thinking a lot of it lately, so I wanted to share it also with you guys and hear if anybody else has more info on it and/or has heard the same stuff?

There is a big rumor that West Caribbean Airways will disappear, the rumor is that the company has some kind of relationship with drug dealers what was discovered recently.

Well personally I really hope that this whole thing is only a rumor. Like we all know, it wont be good for Colombian aviation and will give Colombia again a bad name.
I've flown WEST on the BOG-MDE-BOG route last June with a MadDog 81.... and the service on board was very nice. Pilots were great and showed us the cockpit etc. Only good words for this nice and beautiful COLOMBIAN company!!!!

About Tampa Cargo.
Also heard a little rumor that the DC-8's will be remained in the fleet but it is supposed that they will based at QUITO after the 3 B767-200's will arrive and the 4 more B767300F's brand (new ones) will arrive in the next year(s),
The DC-8's will remain in the fleet because the leasing is very cheap and because there are no operators that wants old DC-8s, so they will flight for Tampa till their time is over I guess.
Maybe Southamerica and 757MDE ore anybody else has more info on this one.

Goodnight and welstrusten!!

About WCA:

I have heard nothing about it more than a joke an Aires Pilot told me a year ago that told me "West Narquidean" because they were doing so good, but he made it pure joke tone, other than that, nothing on WCA and drugs that I know. I by the god's sake I hope it's a lie.

About Tampa:

I haven't heard anything about that either. One thing I can tell is there are no plans for 763s now, as they seem to be quite expensive and the Airline thinks the 762 just suits them.

As I've said before, such a capacity increase by Tampa would be strange for me, as they've always been known by growing slowly but firmly (except the 707 era where they almost got 7 in such a few time... but later had to dispose of some) and having few aircraft but using them wisely.

Having that hypothetic fleet would suppose Tampa a growth in capacity of almost 200%, and I don't really think they're gonna go for that, or at least not so sudden. But unlike the other rumour, if this one was true i'd be the first person to be happy about, provided it doesn't drain their funds.

I won't believe until I see...

Hola 757MDE

Yes this are only rumors.. and as you mentioned... a growth in capacity of almost 200%.... this is a lot when it will happen in a short time. But this grow also can be covered in the next 2/3 years. Remember that they will get the first 767's in only a half year.(+ a new company identity).. so for me this is 100% and this is also very big for a short time!
I think Martinair does great things together with TAMPA.

YES I totally agree with you

hope the first rumor is big fat lie.

I don't know if I'm mistaking you... but the first 767 arrived at Colombia like 20 days ago, with the identity and all (I already saw it myself at MDE).

oohh yeah! Saving it from Bankruptcy and specially bringing the MD-11 to MDE few times (pity I've only seen it once).... aaahhh how I love the MD-11!
I think they're a good team. (BTW there's a pic of Martinair's MD-11 at MDE in some other site).

Well, lets hope WCA doesn't disappear. They are the only decent mainline (ie: Not airlines the size of Satena and Aires) choice besides AV. P5 sucks big time.

I haven't heard anything about the West Caribbean rumor, but if I manage to catch a leak on some info I'll try to post it as soon as I can.

---------------------------

I already said it in the other colombian thread, TAMPA is defintely NOT interested in the 767-300, for now. There are two pilots that I know of that work for Tampa, and both were the ones that told me that the company would have a total change of image like 3 months before it happened; so I think they are pretty good sources, and they equally didn't hesitate in saying that Tampa would not acquire the larger version of the 767 because of the high leasing/buying prices.

I really don't think WCA has any realtions with drugs, specially these days that government entities have an eye in every beggining industry to avoid those things, i think is a big lie but any new info would be very helpfull on that.

If it ever comes to be true I hope they don't close WCA... there's too much legal stuff to close, just expropiate it and keep it going (like Antinarcóticos did with Millonarios soccer team, only in a more agile way!).

Yes I already knew this... and I was so unlucky because this new bird left AMS at 7.30am on 11 September and I arrived that day at 8am at AMS Schiphol airport..... this would have been the first time for me to see a Colombian bird in the Netherlands EN VIVO... aaaahhh so a little disappointed  Sad

Well what I mean is..
you wrote:

hypothetic fleet = 4 new 767-200SF and 4 new 767-300SF

But for me the 4 new 767-200SF's who will enter their fleet from September until December (this year) and their new identity is grow in capacity of almost 100% within only 6 months is also a bit hypothetic....but they (with help from Martinair) are doing this.

About the 4 new 767-300SF's.. was only an rumor that I've heard
and as SOUTHAMERICA wrote....
TAMPA is definitely NOT interested in the 767-300, because of the high leasing/buying prices....
so I can imagine that this rumor wont become reality.

Sadly we can't see a B767 from TAMPA in their current colors....

(BTW there's a pic of Martinair's MD-11 at MDE in some other site).

This one?  Big thumbs up

My formula was if they kept the DC-8s at UIO as said above.
They have like 4 or 5 DC-8s (lets say 4 for easy math purposes), so:

4 planes operating + 4 762s coming = 100% of capacity increase.
If the hypothetical 763s came, then there would be:

8 planes (4 DC-8s and 4 762s) + 4 763s = 200% of capacity increasing, comparing it to what they are right now. But as we said, I think the rumor of the 763s won't become a reality, and I'm not sure about the DC-8s at UIO either... but I'd be a nice thing.

Yees! that one... I was besides the dude that took that picture when he did (but he didn't let me take any pictureees!), and that was exactly the only Martinair's MD-11 I've at MDE.

Ohh yeah!. I was just reading a Semana magazine of the late 90s where it showed a little note saying:

"KLM will send their new MD-11 planes in their Amsterdam - Bogotá route"

How would I've liked to see that!.

jajajaja yes your right, you've got the best explanation!!

sadly you couldn't take any pic at that moment, why can't he borrow his one to you for some moments... ah well you've got other opportunities...Martinair is still flying to MDE or??
Personally its nice to see a MD-11 from Martinair in the Colombian sky when I'm in Bogota!!! I hope I can see the same here in Holanda but the new B from TAMPA!!!

If only KLM had the route AMS-BOG.... I could fly directly from the Netherlands to Colombia.... but no way JOSE!!! Over the past 26 years, I always traveled first LHR, CDG, FRA, MAD, CCS or JFK for a final arrival @ BOG and now that Air France has bought KLM I think KLM will never reopen their short lived route AMS-BOG.....but what ever... I prefer BA and AV.... I only can hope that AV or Fenix.....will come (back) to the north of Europe( LHR, CDG, FRAU, or even AMES)...

Saludos
Willem Alberto
