How does this function? Probably there are different booking systems with different providers (Saarbe, Worldspan??).. is there a global page for all locators..?
I did not find an option on the TG webpage to retrieve my details (I assume this was an airline internal code, so there should be another code available).. So, any possibility to see my booking and the status on the web??

Yes you are right, the Record locator you have given is th TG internal code.
However since Thai uses Amadeus you can check your itinerary using checkmytrip.com
For this, you have to get the Amadeus record locator (if your agent says he doesnt have it - can happen of the booking is made by your agent in another GDs or directly with Thai), you can call a Thai reservations office and ask them to give your Amadeus record locator (there should not be a problem doing that prvided they can verify with the information given by you that you are indeed the passenger). I guess it is easier to ask your agent to get it for you since the booking is made by him.
However while checkmy trip is the Amadeus site, there are similar sites by the other GDSs (Worldspan/Sabre/Galileo). I dont have the URLs , but they also work the same way (you input the corresponding GDS record locator).
It all comes down to HOW your agent has made the TG booking!
After entering the info (new record locator was BxxxxM), I got the following info:

Abacus is not too prevelant in th western world.
Better ask your no doubt friendly (but apparently ignorant travel agent) to include your email adress in the record locator. It should take 10 seconds for him to do and then u can see it online.
While checkmytrip.com used by Amadeus dont need the email address (it just asks for PNR and name), Virtually There requires it as an added security. But is this added secuity really necessary? With the reluctance of many travel agents to learn anything more than the bare mninimum of how to make a reservation, quite a few times, the email info is neither asked for nor incorporated.
Another interesting variation I see is in the system used by Indian Airlines and Air India among others. They just need the AIRLINE (not GDS) record locator, but your name will not appear, only the flight details. Only drawback is if the corner shop travel agent may in his/her hurry put your name as TALK BIG/MRS instead of MR and you may have problems at the airport (very much possible if the ticket is handwritten - although that is fast disappearing even in places like India with automated ticket printers catching up!).

Right in a sense, but not quite. Although TG use Amadeus in their own offices to make bookings, they are not a full System User (TG are a Special Case !). For normal System Users, all bookings made in any system outside Amadeus are forwarded to Amadeus first, then to the airline's inventory system. TG are an exception (the only other exception is Scandinavian and their 30-odd hosted airlines). Bookings on TG made on external systems are routed direct to ROYAL (TG's Inventory system), and are not sent to Amadeus. Only if a TG office wishes to look at the booking, can it be transferred to Amadeus.
Re the Abacus record locator - the GDS record locator is next to useless when dealing directly with the airline (the exception being the Amadeus record locator on Amadeus system user airlines) - always make sure the travel agent gives you the Airline Record Locator (which most airlines do return to most GDS's, pretty much instantaneously) - this is the one the airline agent needs to retrieve your real inventory booking. Very few Inventory systems are able to retrieve a booking by the GDS Record Locator.
When you look at checkmytrip.com, Airline Record Locators returned by carriers in your itinerary (or that carrier's hosting system), are provided in the display, up at the top, under the heading "Airline Reference".
