American Eagle will discontinue weekend service between Raleigh/Durham and both Nassau and Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood. Service to Nassau ends abruptly on 10 October 2004. Service to Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood ends on 31 October 2004. The flights operated twice a day on Saturdays and Sundays only, using ERJ-135s.

AA dropping the RDU-FLL weekend service is a surprise - I would think that the FLL flights would be successful based on cruise traffic alone! Isnt it odd that these "beach routes" are being dropped in advance of the winter season?

Very interesting indeed. How were those routes performing? Is this in anticipation of new service elsewhere? Are these A/C being used on other routes (probably not at RDU)?
Additional note.. RDU-MCO goes to 3x Sat/Sun starting Nov 6...

I'm not at all surprised that NAS didn't work out...not enough O/D to the Bahamas, same as the failed SJU route.
But FLL is a relatively large market from here, and, IIRC, was one of Midway's more popular routes. It couldn't be competition from DL that drove AA out, could it? They're the only other airline to fly RDU-FLL, and it looks like they only run 3 ER3s every day...
