I am a frequent traveller from SYD to AKL but today I saw something I have never seen before at AKL.

Lufthansa cargo MD11

Do they have a regular service to AKL or is it a one off?

Apparently they do regular trips through AKL, I am quite sure it one of those RTW cargo flights.

It is a regular service. They fly round the world, something like FRA-GOT-ORD-LAX-HNL-AKL-MEL-SIN/BKK-SHJ-FRA. I understand the crews quite like this trip because of the exotic locations...

I think it was launched in 2001 in co-operation with Air New Zealand.

Here's some more trivia...
They flight actually routes FRA-ORD-HNL (tech stop) -AKL-MEL-KUL/BKK-FRA, and takes 68 hours. Here's the schedule: http://www.airnz.co.nz/aboutus/cargo/schedules.htm

The crews stay in New Zealand for 5 days!  Smile
