Hello all,
Today I went spotting to MAD.I was seeing the planes depart and I saw a IB A340-300 with registration EC-GGS being towed,I thought this was strange, and then the plane turned around and I saw that the cargo door was open.
Here is the pic: http://tinypic.com/c1gyd
You can see it on the right my view of engine number 4.
My question is,does this happen very often?

the a/c is being towed, and not being flown. it is because of that that the a/c does not need to maintain a pressure hull. therefore, the door can be open. all the doors can technically be open during tow if they wanted to. it seems that someone jsut forgot to shut it.

Thank you Cancidas,
The thing is that the planes taxiing were going to the runway for takeoff or they had landed. It looked like it was going to the runway and then it turned around.
The direction is was going didnt acces any other place than the runways, until it turned around.
Thats why I thought it was strange.

Taking off with that tow truck dangling from the front wheels? Surely if a plane was to take off, it would taxi under its own power? Maybe towed on a circuitous route to avoid other traffic, perhaps.
