With the release date of UA's "Premium Service" on select 757 transcon flights approaching. (Oct. 18) Anyone scheduled to fly it soon and can leave reports on what it was like?

I honestly think this is an awful idea. I know people here drool over it because it is different, and it sounds comfy, but this is really bad business. that few seats on that big of a plane is just bad mogambo

i disagree. i think it could work brilliantly for UA. they have to target their markets better, with P/S transcon, Ted for dense domestic, and RJ's for the rest.

I'm trying to get my award ticket changed for the premium service flight on Dec 2 (JFK-SFO, first flight). What do you think the chances are of that happening? When I talked to the reservations agent, she said that the mileage seats for that flight were TBD.
Also, is United planning to expand the P.S. for all SFO/LAX-JFK flights? Or just a few a day?

Even if the bookings look good now, it is a new service. Also, flying a plane at 2/3rds of its normal capacity, if that, is not a way to make money.

YOU cant judge how the plane is going to fare because bestwestrern thinks its filled with low yield folks already. The price for First class and Business is the same price 50 days out or 5 days out. alot of critics on this forum.

You are all missing the point. Even with fewer seats, the p.s. 757s will cheaper for UA to operate than the 762s they are replacing. Around half of the seats are premium market, and there are fewer to fill. I see UA doing very well on this, but only time will tell if it actually works. And guys, give UA some credit, they wouldn't have gone through with this if it wasn't possible to make money on it. UA isn't as stupid as some people like to think.

Looking at the schedule it appears the p.s. service is starting on Saturday, October 23 rather than Monday, October 18.

No, the red-eye SFO-JFK on Nov 23 Tuesday is not p.s. - it's a regular 757. If you're in coach, and have Economy Plus, it shouldn't be any different from p.s. (p.s. has Economy Plus in the whole economy cabin - 72 seats total).

I'm now booked on the December 2nd flight out of JFK to SFO. It's the first flight of the day (6:45am). Is this in Premium Service configuration? Can someone check?
I asked the agent I was talking to, but she didn't understand..

I think I might've talked to one of those "outsourced res. folk." They could only guess if my seat was Economy Plus. They didn't know how to pronounce my name. Ah, oh well.
