Greetings fellow "STL'ers". NWA has a 757-300 sitting on the Delta Pad as of 10/18/04 0700(L). It is scheduled to be here until this evening when it flies out the defeated Tampa Bay Bucs.  Smile

It sucks that the weather won't be cooperative.

NW does NFL charters for the Bucks and the Rams. From time to time you will see NW 752s, 753s and DC-10s parked at Lambert. Few weeks back there was a DC-10 here.

It doesnt the matter about the weather...they play indoors.

Speaking of sports team charters, who flies the Cardinals around, out of curiosity?

Thanks

if assumptions could fly, airliners.net would be the world's busiest airport

I was chatting with an AA F/A last week on a flight, and she said she had worked a few Cardinals charters. Not sure if AA is the only one the flies the Cardinals around though.

LOL. I should have been more specific. I meant for viewing the 757!  Laugh out loud

Too bad the Rams don't support AA as they took over the hometown airline and played in the TWA dome. Did the Rams used to use TWA? What about the Cardinals?

Interesting, I could have sworn the Cards fly and only fly ATA (well for the time being)

You think that is cool.

Get this.

I work at the tower at STL now and today we had two NW DC-9s at the gates as well as the NW 757-300 in the Delta pad. Also in the Delta pad, a NW DC-9, NW Bae-146 and NW CRJ.

All due to weather at STL and MEM. The MEM weather caused a ground stop for a good portion of the morning. I think the mid day flight to MEM was canceled.

Mid day we had a C141 also in the Delta pad. It went to Navy San Dieago around, oh say noon.

Moman,

They sure did. They flew a 72S for a while.

The father of one of my best friends used to fly 757s and 767s for TWA. He would occasionally fly the Rams to their game sites.

A friend of mine who flies 757/767 for AA has had a couple of Cowboy charters. Unfortunately, in both cases, the Cowboys were returning to DFW after a loss, so he didn't get to ask for autographs.

The team gets Bistro bags, but they are about triple the size of the Bistro bag AA has at gates for scheduled flights.

Whenever the Cardinals fly to Chicago they use AA, typically an MD-80, into MDW. Prior to 2002 they were using TWA. I'm assuming they use AA as their primary charter.

Iowa744fan:

I wasn't aware the Rams flew exclusively on the TWA logojets. I always thought those were just regular theme planes, similar to the ones America West has.

Cactus,

I think that they flew those as well. I'll ask my friend's father. By the way, did/do HP fly the D-Backs and Cardinals (football)? Do they still have that specially configured 73S that they used to use for the Phoenix Suns? I would imagine that a baseball team could fit on that, but I imagine that they would need something bigger for a football team.

Thanks guys for the information. I'm glad to see the Rams and Cardinals support the new hometown airline.

I don't think they did. I remember seeing that livery very frequently at STL.

Iowa744fan:

I'm not sure if they still fly both teams, even though they are the "Official Airline". They don't fly the special config 737-100, which was exclusively for the Suns, anymore. That plane was retired and scrapped at OPF a few years ago. The Suns were asking for an upgrade to a special config A319 and HP refused, so they took their charter contract to Northwest. They now fly their own private 734.

Atcboy,

Aren't there quite a few problems with NW's gate situation? Two gates for as many flights as they have a day into STL, along with the possibility of them wanting to upgrade to Airbus equipment makes me think they would be a good candidate to either get another gate or move to D. Your thoughts?

They certainly should move both DL and NW over to the D concourse. The A gates are horrible, and extremely crowded.

Moman, they are both bad, but have you been in D? It's horrendous, no airline should be subjected to such ugliness.

I got ahold of my friend. She thinks that they operated both the Rams Jet 757 and other ones as well. It depended upon what aircraft was available. She said that she was going to see her father and she would ask him.

Kennedy1,

They operate the aircraft in regular service the remainder of the week, so seeing it elsewhere would not be uncommon.

Ramerinianair,

I would be more concerned about those offensive linemen!

As far as I know, the charters from the airlines are just a standard configuration. I assume that the players get a side of the row to themselves...or at least no middle seat duties!!! Well, maybe that is a rookie hazing thing. Make him sit between two o-linemen!  Smile Some of the other sports charters, like the old Champion (no longer flying?) or privately owned aircraft are often specially configured. As Cactus mentioned, HP used to have a 737-100 with all first class seating that the Phoenix Suns used. However, I would imagine that it would be expensive to keep an aircraft like that and operate it normally the remainder of the week.

Cactus,

That is too bad about the Suns. I can see HP not wanting to redo that aircraft though. The cost would be a bit to keep that aircraft in that configuration. Although I guess with the NBA, they would fly more freqently than the NFL would. Hmmm...I'll still keep the Suns as my favorite team. I wonder if Steve Nash is going to miss Mark Cuban's 757 this year!

Yeah D is not too much better except that it is completely empty. A is so crowded last time I flew Delta out of there, I waited in like 30 minutes through security and it was crowded, and then the rest of the concourse was so crowded and busy.

Nice to see a picture or two of "Helmet Head". Anyone have a picture of the TWA MD-80 with the color scheme reversed? What we called it I won't repeat on an open forum.
