Does SWA still have any 737-200's in service? If so what routes do they fly? any retirement plans? any plans for new aircraft for SWA (737, or anything else new)? any pix of the -200's? Thanks!

I think there are about 10 left in service. N721WN and N722WN were the most recent to retire...

>>>If so what routes do they fly?

Primarily within Texas, in and out of DAL. Some flights to ABQ, TUL, OKC, LIT, and MSY as well.

>>>any retirement plans?

Five more will go by the end of 2004, and the last 5 will go two weeks later in mid-January 2005.

Lots of pictures of them here on A.net, just go to the photo search engine..

The 737-200 was the first plane for Southwest. As OPNLguy said above, WN plans to retire them within a year. Southwest has orders for 737-700s and 800s(i think)

what will they do in those texas markets that couldnt support a 737 or 738?

Wont there be too many empty seats? Isnt that against their business plan and what they stand for and believe in?

The frequencies are being reduced, so it's actually the same amount of seats, just bigger planes less frequently. Just to clarify WN doesn't have the 737-800, just the 737-700.

do they have any plans for a smaller or even a larger plane type (example: erj170, or 767, 777) probably not anything bigger but i am wondering more about the smaller.

I hope not Erj145lr, the 737 keeps there fleet simplified and that's all they really need.

Some months back, there were rumors (I emphasize 'RUMORS") that SWA was to get the E-190s just like JBLU is supposed to get. I don't see that happening.

Also, there are still 25 737-500s in the fleet, with the same 122-seat capacity as the about-to-be-extinct-in-90-days 737-200 fleet.

SWA has no 737-800s, but rumors are out there that we might acquire some, either from Boeing, or ex-ATA birds. (Do a search for previous threads; I'll not rehash it here). -IF- we did, -800s wouldn't happen until after the -200s are gone in mid-January.

they have 122 seats in the 200's.. wow. Is that comfortable? Seems cramped. Isnt the most common config about 110/115?

Years ago, and I mean -eons- ago, the -200s used to seat 118, but they went to a slimmer seat that allowed 122 seats. To me, the -200s (and -500s) with 122 have always seemed just as comfy as the -300s and -700s with 137..

Ah, this is a major reason I am looking forward to Dallas for training starting this coming Sunday! One last chance to see those -200s! And from what I hear, a -200 will most likely be used for the hands on portion of the course!  Big thumbs up

No plans, as it's not for certain that we're getting any. It was discussed as a possibility, as in "theoretical possibility" after JBLU ordered them. Personally, I think you'd more likely see -600s here than E-190s...

In November 1994, I was on two WN flights -- ABQ-LAS and return -- on 737-200s. This was when they still had the lounge seating in the front two rows. I loved it, and found it quite comfortable. Those flights (and WN's character) restored my faith in flying.

I heard a rumor to that effect, but mid-January is still on as far as I know..

Yes, Silver One is still flying. In fact, it's spending the night at SJC tonight.  Big thumbs up

Unfortunately, it appears it will soon be painted blue like the rest of 'em. The interior is no longer silver/grey like it was back when you flew on it. It has already been converted to the "spirit" interior.
