I can't believe how many press releases there have been in the past couple of weeks announcing new European desinations for Continental. What made Continental all of a sudden decide to expand it's reach in Europe?

The fact is that domestic operations are not profitable, and international routes are. Therefore, CO's opinion is that if we can make money by flying internationally, why not add more routes to Europe that can make us money? I don't think they have one single Transatlantic destination that isn't profitable, so they are just acting on what works best for them. I'm sure it doesn't hurt their image, either, to be able to have such an impressive route map with the claim-to-fame of more destinations than any other airline in the world. Slowly but surely, they are becoming the present-day Pan Am. Only UA can really rival them in number of cities served.
