Hi chaps,

Just in discussion with someone about G-VIIP and the fact that she hasn't been shot much on A.net.

Seems odd for a BA 777-236ER not to heavily photographed!

We wondered what the status is of this aircraft?

All info is appreciated,

Regards,

Lovely lovely aircraft though.

I have no idea why it's so rarely photographed. Probably just a coincidence. But did you notice this: G-VIIP is a Gatwick-based 777. The first photo you posted was taken at LHR. The aircraft was ferried to LHR on this day (22 May 2004) just for re-painting, so it's the final photo of G-VIIP with World Tail:

From http://www.avnclub.demon.co.uk/:
G-VIIP 'Colum' last service with this tail image was
BA2036/21May MCO-LGW. Ferried LGW-LHR as BA9173E/22May
for strip & repaint into Union Flag livery. Positioned
back to LGW as BA9180E/31May and re-entered service
as BA2037/01Jun LGW-MCO

So G-VIIP is flying with the Union Flag since May without being photographed.

Its based at Gatwick, like it always has been.

1/10/04 - BA2166 from Tampa, BA2037 to Orlando
2/10/04 - BA2036 from Orlando
3/10/04 - BA2167 to Tampa
4/10/04 - BA2166 from Tampa, BA2263 to Kingston

7/10/04 - BA2036 from Orlando, BA2167 to Tampa
8/10/04 - BA2166 from Tampa, BA2037 to Orlando
9/10/04 - BA2036 from Orlando, BA2167 to Tampa
10/10/04 - BA2166 from Tampa, BA2157 to Grenada and St. Lucia
11/10/04 - BA2156 from Grenada & St Lucia,
12/10/04 - BA2167 to Tampa
13/10/04 - BA2166 from Tampa, BA2167 to Tampa
14/10/04 - BA2166 from Tampa
15/10/04 - BA2167 to Tampa
16/10/04 - BA2166 from Tampa, BA2167 to Tampa
17/10/04 - BA2166 from Tampa, BA2037 to Orlando
18/10/04 - BA2036 from Orlando, BA2263 to Kingston
19/10/04 - BA2262 from Kingston, BA2037 to Orlando

Just because an aircraft doesn't get photographed much, doesn't mean they are out of service.

Anybody who spends a little time shooting aircraft soon gets a nose for what will be a common shot and what isn't. It's unusual to see BA 777 ex-LGW or LHR that hasn't been heavily photographed.

The schedule of the flights answers that one though.

It takes a big man to admit they are wrong, and I am not a big man.

As we are on the subject, it seems odd to me that I only get G-YMMG until G-YMMP here at my home aiport (GRU).. Any good reason for that? Or just a coincidence?

I believe that I saw this aircraft when I was in TPA in March, however as usual my photos were not accepted to this database.

It's probably just a coincidence. There are only a few airports that receive the more unusual configurations (the two-class, non-DUSK aircraft that haven't been fitted with FIRST or the flat bed J seat and no World Traveller Plus as well as the aircraft that aren't fitted with FIRST). I don't think -MMP or -MMG fall into any of those categories. It may just be the cycle of the planes. For instance, a plane that flies from Boston as BA238 departs 0810 arrives LHR at 1945 then continues onto DXB arriving the next day and then does the daylight flight out of DXB to arrive into LHR to be turned around as BA239 and back to BOS that evening. It happens pretty frequently.

I travelled on this beast 2 years ago - was an ok trip. Fortunately was in Club World, tho it was the ye olde club with cradle seat... you can read it here!! I hitched a lift on it from KIN to LGW.
