First, I'll start by saying I know what it's like to be a bitter, stressed out airline employee. Years of that on-going train wreck known as Canadian/Canadian regional/Jazz taught me all about that. But it was also made clear that employees do not go public and criticize the airline. In todays Vancouver Province a guy (whose name was printed in the paper, but not the online version) says AC has the money for Celine, but can't fix the airplanes, thus scaring off the very people that can help the airline-customers. Probably not the brightest move, and if I still worked there, I'd be really P.O.'d with tthis guy. What do you think?

i can understand his frustration, many companies are very tight with the money right now. However i don't think he chose the best way to vent his frustration , in a public paper, let alone giving them his name. you may know, does the company have any regulations about speaking to the media like this?

There was a section in the employee handbook that clearly laid out the rules, which boiled down to- "Don't talk to the media." "Don't do anything that would make the company look bad."

Hmmm. Too bad Milton didn't get a chance to peruse this handbook.

I too think this particular employee should have refrained from uttering his anger and frustration to the media, as it really does nobody any good in the short and long term re image. However, I do know his sentiments are shared by many AC (and ex-CP) employees in YYZ.

He has a point and a right to say whats true, its pretty sad they pay a singer big bucks to come out, when essentually they dont have the money, not to mention this crazy idea of putting extremely expensive IFE on all planes.

Oh and im sorry, but if I was a AC employee, I would be pretty pissed at Milton's statement "We really have become the strongest airline in North America"

Pretty sad when either your CEO likes lying or is just blind. Even though NW and CO lost money, they are far stronger then AC, not to mention WN.

Most companies like to let the P.R. people hanlde the media, they tend to frown when anyone else in the company tries. This probably won't go well for him.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

As for the`"crazy" idea of IFE, as a customer, I'm about to change an LH flight to AC, because I prefer the on demand IFE AC has. Previously, from YYZ-FRA, I avoided AC because of old aircraft and so-so IFE. So it can pay off.

Its not the fact of whether you (one of many who probably knows the IFE) rather the cost of putting in such a system, Air Canada shouldnt be spending money on such things like IFE that they dont have to, rather focus it on where its needed, isnt AC still in bankruptcy?

Yes, he has a right to his opinion, as does anyone, but "handbook policies" aside, there is an unwritten code/ethic that you simply do not dis your company in public. Right or wrong (and I personally can understand his
anger re Milton's strategy/decisions, and part of me can understand why he blew his top) you do NOT bite the hand that issues you your paycheque or the paycheques of your colleagues. You do NOT send out negative messages that could, and will compromise your company's standing, and subsequent load & yeild factors. I wouldn't fret too much, as the public is known to have rather short memories.

It is hard for the laid off AC employees, and those remaining, who have sacrificed a lot (which truly had to be done, as painful as it was for them, in order for the over bloated AC to successfully restructure) to watch the Celine spectacle. It was hard for me to watch, and I don't even work for AC. Milton really thought that the employees would be given a huge morale boost with Ms. Quebec/Vegas belting out her nauseating tunes. Give me a break. Yeah, really makes you feel better when you check your direct deposit once a month and see it up to 21% less (net).

Look, when it comes down to it, the general flying public could truly not give a damn about livery colours and seat colours. Nor do they really choose an airline based on a glitzy ad campaign (and why they selected Celine, God only knows). They want (as many of us know, it's so obvious) competitive pricing, frequency, reliability, an excellent mileage program with a good and fair redeeming factor, and above all, strong, positive customer service from the carrier employees. As for IFE's, believe it or not, especially on the Asian routes, they could very well prove to be a sound investment. Many of our corporate clients prefer CX or SQ over AC to Asia from Canada for this very reason. Perhaps AC should have added the IFE's on selected routes.

"You're Fired!"

Don't count on it. Chances are this particular employee is unionized. Good luck to AC management if they want to weed him out.

Anyone can use his name when giving a story to the media....especially someone with a grudge against him/her.

"I'm so and so..." - it's all speculative. Now whether he admits to doing so is another story...but keep in mind, it's all heresay and he can always claim that someone else used his name.

Has he admitted to speaking with the media?

Cheers~
