Question About Flexible Business Class Tickets

Hi all,

on Monday I have to fly to HAM, I got a Business Class ticket for the flight at 8:20am but the company who sponsored the ticket wrote me that I can also choose an earlier or a later flight because the ticket is flexible, so I decided to take the 9:55am flight to sleep a little bit longer  Big grin.

Now my question, do I have to call LH already tomorrow to rebook myself on another flight or is it ok when I arrive at the airport at 9:00am to check-in for the 9:55am flight? The same for the return flight, I am booked on the 7:45pm flight but I think my appointment there is rather short so I can easily catch the 3:40pm flight, do they rebook me without problems on the earlier flight when I arrive ~45 minutes before boarding or do I have to tell them the changes in advance? And do I have the guarantee to get a seat on the flights I want to change to?

Sorry if this is a stupid question but this is the first time I want to change to a flight other than stated on my tickets.

Advise LH of your travel plans, while your ticket can be used on any of the flights that you mention, you must be certain that there are actually seats available on the later departing flight and the earlier return flight. You will be rather upset if you show up for the 0955 flight and LH would advise you that the flight is already booked to capacity. Call LH, revise your reservation, and when you get to the airport, there will be nothing to discuss and the check-in agent will simply issue your boarding card for your new flights.

Thanks for your reply!

Yes, it is probably the best when I inform them in advance about my travel plans although I hate it to call the LH hotline because there is always someone on the other end of the line who is terrible incompetent. That is also the reason why I asked here on A.net and not directly at the LH hotline, I am sure their answer to my question would be: "Sorry, I don't know, please call our other call center under 0180-12345678 but they don't work on weekends".

Why not go to the LH site, and try to make a reservation in business class for the new flights that you want.....that way you can check availability; if you dont have a problem getting a seat, then you should be OK.

I would call - maybe you will get lucky and get someone on the line who knows what he or she is doing.

What is your departure city - I may be able to check something for you.

Patrick, I'd just go ahead and call them if I were you - checking availability in C-class and rebooking a passenger is something that even the people at LH's callcenter should be able to manage... it comes down to booking a new seat for you, cancelling the old one and closing the PNR - that's it.

And, at least if your booking was made in Amadeus (and I think it works the same way in Sabre or Galileo, though I've never checked in either one), if you've got an ETIX, the Amadeus system automatically revalidates your ETIX as well, so you could still go to the check-in kiosk...

Nonetheless, those Monday morning flights to HAM can be a bitch - I guess that the 9:55 shouldn't be that much of a problem, but the earlier ones are often enough full up to the last seat, with something like 2/3s of the plane configured for C-class.

With BA you have to call them a minimum of 2hrs before departure to arrange changes to flexible tickets. I know people who were hungover the morning of travel so called and got their flights moved  Smile

I'd call LH ASAP as you are more likely to be confirmed seating on your new itinerary if you call them as soon as you know.
