With the acquisition of Excel and Islandsflug by Air Atlanta, and the forming of the Avion group - anybody know how these companies will move forward ?
Air Atlanta already operates the Air Atlanta Europe brand in the UK, along with Excel - AAE providing 757 and 767 aircraft for Excel Airways.
Also both airlines aircraft are marketed by Excel Aviation - another in-house company. Islandsflug also base approx 3 B737's across the UK for additional Summer capacity.
This Summer, Excel operated approx 20 aircraft, Air Atlanta Europe operated 4, and Islandsflug had 3.
If they all operated under the same brand, EXCEL AIRWAYS could become the largest charter airline in the UK.

I would imagine at some point the UK brands at least will merge. Excel/Atlanta Europe are moving into the same offices shortly anyway. Excel Airways would have to be the name of choice, they are the strongest brand. Although Air Atlanta are known of in the UK, I think Excel carry a better reputation.
Remember a few years ago when Excel launched? Brand new Boeing 737s, leather seats, great inflight service, huge emphasis on punctuality. This was something new and something big in the UK charter market. They even made it to the top of the punctuality tables in their first summer. Unfortunately I think the brand has suffered slightly since then. Nothing against Air Atlanta, they're great at what they do, but todays Excel is a different kettle of fish to the one back then... any thoughts?
Slightly going off topic (sorry) Libra Holidays, who created Excel and sold it on, are apparently looking at acquiring a fair portion of Helios...

Yeah...seems Excel will carry the brand name....apparently Islandsflug will operate as XLA this coming Summer, in full Excel Colours, and interiors..
And 747s at LGW may also do the same.... but this could ruin Excels good name, due to ageing aircraft.
Also...the TravelCity product ???
But will it be a complete merger...will Air Atlanta simply drop their name and their AOC, which cost lots to get...also Atlanta just spent 60,000 STG on new uniforms for their crew ( very smart for the guys)...

Not sure how it will all pan out, whatever happens I think Air Atlanta (Iceland) will remain unchanged, just the Excel, AAE and Islandsflug being played around with. Excels name hasn;t had the smoothest ride in the last season or two anyway. The 767s and 757s haven't been especially reliable and passengers have noticed the aircrafts age etc etc Thats what I was reffering to when i said the brand had suffered. When they launched it seemed as if they were leading the way... now I'm not entirely sure where they're at?

a BIG no, no!!! I was working for TransAer back in 2000, flying from LGW. EVERYTHING was TransAer, ok quite nearly. One of our pilots was wearing his Egypt Air-uniform, and I was wearing a pseudo-uniform (with parts of Air Atlanta). Tray-tables, meals, inflight-magazines, uniforms and duty-free items (etc.) were provided by TransAer. There was NOTHING, no single item of Air 2000 (ok once one head-phone) aboard TLA's A300B4!!

I can't help but feel that Excel have tried to grow rather too quickly. Their shorthaul 738 product is great and a couple of years they had great on-time performance that has slipped considerably - the increase in longhaul ops hasn't helped. Also as Jmc757 rightly points out, the 757s have hit their punctuality and 767s in charter config are grim in any airline.
Those Air Atlanta 742s have been absolute dogs this summer, AAE and TravelCity have had a rough time of it, especially with all the hurricanes causing even more problems. Still the XLA brand seems quite strong though. I can't imagine why they would want to associate it with those god awful aging aircraft!

AEU is by no means on par with XLA, I have flown both and can safely say they are totally different. XLA have the leather seats, excellent catering,IFE,punctual etc etc
AEU have old 733 and newer 73G, no IFE, dull cloth seating, the "champagne cocktails" are less than a gulp full and not worth bothering with, and the interiors are looking rather worn, the first 733, G-STRA was looking worn on day one, I worked the first operational service on that day and we were down the cabin with Jif,sponges and air freshener, and dont even go there with the toilets! So unless AEU have done a complete 360 since 2003, I would say a big fat no!

Debonair, I didnt mean all this was history. Excel still have the leather seats etc... What I meant was that when Excel was launched they seemed a fresh, pioneering outfit. leather seats on a British charter airline? They're inflight service was a cut above, and they really placed an emphasis on punctuality, it was truly excellent. Now they don't seem that pioneering energetic outfit that they once were. Just another charter, average punctuality, distinctly average in-flight service, old aircraft... just another charter airline.
Astraeus? I have been on (not flown though) one of their 73Gs and thought the cabin was great. Ok, no IFE but it was really modern and clean. And I've heard their in-flight service is really good....

Will Air Atlanta keep their weekly 747 LGW-Sharm El Sheikh-LGW flight or will Excel take the route over? The flights operates every Sunday (EUK6482-I think). Would be a shame if they left as they're the only regular 747 operator to SSH since MS retired their 743s.

Really? I know XLA have 2 flights to HRG every friday (one arrives back at LGW at 22:10 and the other 22:30) but I always assumed both flights were with B738. Is the other flight operated with the 738?
Is there any chance HRG services are increased. Those 2 flights have not increased for the last 3 years (albeit they have been operated by different airlines). I know SSH gets loads of new flights from the UK from the 4th of November, but I haven't heard anything regarding HRG. Will MAN get direct flights to HRG?
So XLA and Air Atlanta operate the only 747 services to Egypt's fastest growing airports...nice. BA also upgrade their CAI flights from 777 to 744
