Does anyone know why I saw two Delta MD-11's sitting near the maintenance hangers next to 26R this morning when I landed?

Is DL going to bring the MD-11's back for long haul routes?

Please advise.

Arent DL's MD-11s going to FedEX?

Maybe they were being prepped for that. Thats the only thing I can think of.

Sorry I did'nt read your post well. Did you see them at the TOC hanger? It may be the ones stored in Canada that are going to FedEx. Maybe the interiors are being removed. I will call down there today to see what up.

I was in ATL this weekend and saw the MD-11 too, but I don't think it had any engines...or at least it was missing the #2 engine. But ATL is full of Omni MD-11s.

801 is coming to WO is DL livery. It's on a very short term lease and it's not worth repainting it. Both 803 and 804 were here but they're both in WO livery.

Ed - how long will 801 be at the TOC before you begin service with her. Also have you been getting the parts from 802? just wondered. One more thing I see we have been working on one of your at DLN the past week. I think it was to be there for 15days or so.

I saw the two DL MD-11's and two Omni MD-11's as well. There was also a World DC-10 and a World MD-11 too. I landed KATL - 26R at about 9:15 AM this morning (KBDL-KATL). I was seated in 37FG and saw these aircraft out of my window (right side of the plane). The DL MD-11's were in front of the DL maintenance hanger and adjacent to the AirTran hanger where I also saw a brand new AirTran 737.

Sounds like these are two that are headed to FedEx.

Out of curiosity, since when did Omni Air International start flying MD-11s?

It sure is news to me also that Omni is into MD-11s. I know they have 10's and 757's but the 11's have never been part of their plan?

I think what was seen at ATL that day were N272WA, N273WA, N275WA, N803DE and N804DE all MD-11's that are operated by World.....and of course N801DE and N802DE that are currently Deltas....I do not think that Omni has acquired MD-11's.

Vikingair,
Pretty close. 275 left yesterday afternoon for TPE, but 279 arrived this morning at 1144Z. I also can confirm that Omni does not have any MD-11's. They are flying R&R trips from/to KWI as are we. We each operate 1 flight every other day.

DAL7001
We should be getting 801 around the first of next month, but GYR isn't going to start work on it until the 6th. We hope to have it up and on our ops specs by December.

The a/c you guys had was 275. It was doing a 2 engine ferry ANC/ATL several weeks ago and just as it began to roll for takeoff it flipped nose up and hit the tail on the runway. The a/c only travelled 20 feet, but the damage was pretty extensive, especially since this is the 2nd tail strike for this a/c. You guys did a great job of getting it back to us. Boeing wanted an additional week and of course was much more expensive. The original ETR was late on the 31st and here it is already enroute TPE/ANC/LAX with a full load as we speak.

Clipper002,
How long is the short term lease of 801DE? Is it being added to provide additional lift in the absence of N353WL?

Perhaps it was a DC-10 then, but there most assuredly was a Tri-Engine aircraft in Omni livery at KATL yesterday. Keep in mind that I was crusin by as I landed and turned off to the left, away from my field of vision.

Vikingair,
The lease on 801 is for 7 months. After that, this a/c needs a D check and I don't think DL wants to spend the cash on that.

Yes, the MD-11s were World Airways. Sorry for the confusion.  Sad In fact there were a bunch of them over on the north side of the runways and one in terminal E. But I think there was an Omni plane there too...probably saw the DC-10.

As I posted earlier, Omni also flies R&R missions every other day rom ATL to KWI. World operates on even dates and Omni on the odd dates of the month.

FDX and 5X will aquire some DL MD-11s for sure. Not sure which ones, but they are very cost effiecent in the cargo industry.

25 Luv767s : forgive me but what are R&R missions?
26 Clipper002 : That's for "Rescue and Relief" missions for our troops over in Iraq. They get sent home for 2 week period before having to return to the action. They
27 Bh : We miss all the widebody action up here in BWI due to the R&R flights going to ATL and DFW,but they have a lot of more options of connecting flights a
