A few questions for any ATL folk:
Do you know if Concourse C was renumbered after Valujet took over the Southside? Because a photo from Easterns days shows no jetways at Gates C2 and C4, and in this day ASA has reconfigured C24 to stairs, plus there is an old gate door to the right of the stair entry, with the number of the gate removed from the top of the door (Near the words lit up in red "EXIT").
Also, the carpet: Was that installed in Easterns day and age? Recently, the old hanging light fixtures (They were ancient) were sadly removed, and new lights that have acrylic lenses on the sides have been installed, just like on all the other Concourses (Guess ATL looked too different, yeah?)
One more question: Near ASA's Gate C36 there are escalators going down that look EXACTLY like C2's, but they could not have been installed in Easterns day because there was a horde of jetways in that one area.
Thanks for your answers, I am researching ATL and that one concourse is the strangest.

Very observant! Hotlanta's C concourse has some history regarding gate changes. We, FL have some weird gate numbers like C7C. Why you ask? Because back in the day when C concourse with the rest of ATL generation 3 was built in '80, many C Gates for Eastern were for the wide body birds, the L1011's, DC-10's and A 300's. To get more planes in a finite amount of airport real estate, caused the changes in these Gates and this is why there are these abnormalities. Regarding the decor, ATL the present version was designed, built and opened at the end of the decade known for bad taste, the 70's. Lets face it, 70's orange looked crappy back in the 70's and worse today. I feel ATL is a well laid out facility but, that 70's orange is an eyesore. You notice the orange crush when you approach the gate as your flight taxis in to the gate.

why is it C 7 C instad of C-7A some might ask... well when the gates were added passengers in error went to concourse A seeing the A and missed their flgihts .. VP Tommy Kalil who had relocated to ATL from florida came up with the idea of naming the gate with a C instead of A to avoid passenger confusion
