On saturday, 23rd, we were booked on a flight between CDG & TXL with LH.
While checking, we were proposed to fly through FRA because the flight to TXL was overbooked (it was a small plane), with the following compensation :
150€ cash/passenger or 300€ coupon/passenger for a next flight with LH (these coupons last for one year and it's possible to have 150€ cash for 3 years).
We weren't on a hurry so we took the coupons and it was nice to fly on a A300 from FRA to TXL.
What are your experiences with overbooking?

Flying is amazing!

I remember being booked to fly US SMF-LAX, that flight was canceled and we were rebooked on a UAex Brasilia, that was overbooked and we voluenteered and took another US flight later. They gave us 2 free tickets good for anywhere in the continental US.

A flight from IAH to SJO with CO was once overbooked, they offered 500 Dollars for flying on the next flight that departs 7 hours later with a guaranteed seat. I took it, since I was in Tulsa, Oklahoma and I spent there 500 Dollars, so all my expenses from Tulsa were covered!

Icarus:
I have already shared my experiences with AA on other threads, but I'll gladly share them again.
There was a period of time in the nineties when AA had two flights to LIM from the US (there are now 3, and there used to be 5) operating 757. At the time, there were no other US carriers operating to LIM (now CO, DL operate also, and UA pulled out) so there were overbooked flights pretty much all the time. As my wife and I were teachers at expensive, private schools in LIM, we always traveled with the masses of rich people who had homes in MIA. The Saturday before school started (3 different times of the school year), the flights were FULL. I got "bumped" every time. A typical situation was 1500 travel voucher per seat, a night in a hotel (Hilton, Omni, to name a few), and three meals because we needed to stay 24 hours until the next evening. We did this for 3 years and probably earned about 15,000 US in the process in travel vouchers. After arriving in LIM, I would call the airline and book the next holiday, pay with vouchers (tickets were always less than the voucher), and I would earn FF miles in the process because vouchers = cash to the airline. Often, I got bumped from 2-3 flights in one weekend.
Unfortunately, we returned to live in the US and supply increased in that market, so the situation ended. However, every time I reach the counter at MIA, I ask if there is an overbooking situation. One time, they said "no" but an hour later, prior to boarding, they upgraded my entire family (1 Platinum, 3 Gold, including my 3 and 6 year old daughters) to business because they looked at the profile and needed 4 seats, I suppose.
