I wonder if someone can tell me the current and future situation of VS A340-300's. I know G-VSKY has gone (now 9Y-JIL with BWIA) but what is going to happen to the rest of the them? Will they be replaced with the additional A340-600 on order?
I think G-VHOL was the second A340 produced so is quite old, as are some of the others.

Well, VS stated when they first recieved the A346 that they were to replace the A343s and that they wanted an all 747/346 fleet, so take from that what you wish

I haven't heard of any plans for VA to get rid of their 343s. Although I haven't been on either-I think the 346s are WAYYY beter because they have the V:Port entertainment system. I think the 346 and 343 have kind of the same entertainment options/features (video on demand, games, etc...), just the V:Port has the WAYYYY bigger screens!

All the older -311s are to leave the fleet in the near future. These being:
G-VAEL
G-VBUS
G-VFLY
G-VHOL
G-VSEA
The newer -313s are sticking around for a while I hear as VS need the extra aircraft for new routes and frequencies announced a while back. Plus they are very good aircraft for developing markets where maybe the -600 or 744 are too big. They will all eventually be replaced by new -600s I think but with the exception of the above mentioned aircraft not for a good few years. remember most of these aircraft are less than 10 years old.

Richard28,
Your right mate, the older 343's are being replaced with new 346's with V-Port and Suite etc. But the newer 343's are staying with us for a little longer and to be kitted out with the Suite next year once the Gatwick Fleet 747's are done. The last 346 has just been fitted with the Suite so now all the Heathrow 747's and 346's are all fitted with the Upper Class Suite.
Airgeek12,
The 343's have not and will not get V-Port On Demand IFE. They will be staying with Odyssey IFE.

All the -300s should be fitted with the v:port system, cos the oddyssey system is getting really old, although it was state of the art a few years ago. How come the -300s are getting the suite now? I thought that originally they weren't.

I was up at Virgin HQ last week and they are still committed to putting V-Port on all aircraft, although the fuel prices have delayed plans. As mentioned above, the non-Odessey A343s will leave the fleet, and the remaining aircraft will get Suites once the LGW 747 refits are complete (probably from March 05 onward). V-Port will either reach those A343s, or they'll be retired - but one thing's for sure, they'll be at the back of the queue.
