I just read Gatwick has lost it's Paris service with British Airways and for the first time in 30 years it have lost it's link with the French capital.
If BA have been unable to successfully operate this service what are the chances of another airline picking up the pieces and offering a service.
If Air France offered a service to CDG this could potentially offer a very lucrative link to their long haul services from the Parisian hub and could potentially damage BA further by stealling business from them. - Would this work, as AF successfully operate from other regional UK airports?
OR
Which I think is the more likely outcome - easyJet could possibly offer a low cost service to Paris and think this would be very successful. easyJet have been offering a service from Luton for about 3-4 years to CDG and this service now operates six times a day during the week.

The EuroStar high speed train service will most likely be the winner of this move, at least when it comes to point-to-point traffic between London and Paris. Therefore I see the chance of an EasyJet service on this route as very slim. Maybe AF will feed its hub at CDG with a couple of ERJ or CRJ flights, but most likely the airline will stay at LCY and LHR.

It could be a good idea, as a regional service from LGW to several destinations in France, can connect with the other skyteam partners. (Delta, Northwest, Continental)

There may be just enough demand for a sucessful LGW-PAR low cost service, twice a day. It is still a bit of a pain to get to Waterloo from places south of Gatwick.

We are all dismayed at the lost of this link.
I travelled to Paris quite a lot on the LGW-CDG route with friends in Paris doing the reverse.
In the past - flights have always been busy especially on weekends and AF should do well to take up this route since although LGW is a London airport, there is still a large population living near Gatwick that would welcome this service.
Ashford, Waterloo, City and Heathrow are just too difficult to get to for weekend leisure and business day trips if you live south of LGW.

flyBe also have planes based at LGW and they might be in a better position than BMIBABY. Their BAe146s might be ideal to offer a frequent and low cost LGW/CDG service. Better still, why do they not start routes to both CDG and Orly from LGW - Orly is much better if your destination is south of Paris and at present AF is the only airline flying from London to Orly - from LCY only.
flyBe operates AF's flights from Glasgow to CDG, another point in their favour.

Would be good to see FlyBE operating an AF link between LGW and ORY or CDG. CDG only for connecting traffic so I can add more points to my KLM FD card but ORY for the ease and speed to the Left Bank
