From Travelbiz.com.au
Singapore Airlines passengers can now confirm flights, check-in and choose their seats online two days before departure.
The new Internet check-in system, which allows passengers to select their preferred seat from an interactive seat map, can be used for all tickets and bookings, according to a report in The Sydney Morning Herald.
The system can also be used for connecting flights operated by selected airlines, and will also be available for code-shared SQ flights.
Passengers must arrive to check-in luggage at least 45 minutes before their flight.
Following their online check-in, passengers are sent an email or SMS as confirmation.

I had many problems with the previous system...
I logged in with my KrisFlyer number and then changed the FFP number to LH. Online check-in was not possible. If you logged in with Username/PW it would have been fine. But logging in with KF ID/PIN was not ok if you changed the FF earnings. Hopefully the new system will be easier.

Sean - Last time only KF members could do it, now anybody can check in. Doesnt have to be KF members, any person who has a ticket with SIA is able to do so. Not sure if it refers to Etickets or paper tickets. I would assume paper tickets shld be no worries too.
