How many hours a month does a normal flight attendant work? Air Tran guarantees you 70 a month but at there starting pay of 18.53$ hour that's not a lot of money.

One way, IAH-RTB please! No return ticket required.

Hello Snn2003,

70-80 hours is the normal range. You can look at it as 9 dollars an hour for 35 hours a week in a regular 9-5 job. But added to that are the expenses paid during layovers. Now that fluctuates wildly from airline to airline and of course depends if your sked has layovers in it. The best is to have a sit-down with an F/A from that airline and ask him:

- What the deal is for layovers/actual salary
- Possibility of overtime/100 hours
- Is he/she able to work at another job and the flexibility of that airline or
that other job to accomodate his/her schedule

You're not in it for the money, that's for sure; you're in it for the lifestyle. Stressful, very very social and rewarding are the biggest plusses. You can also count ample time off and... welll... lotsa flying.

I work for a Canadian charter and am able to live off that job alone. I manage to get overtime sometimes, and the layover "per diem", in our case, is an hourly salary for the time you're not in the plane/commuting and not home. A lot of my co-workers have part-time jobs elsewhere as well.
