I booked a return flight from Bahrain to Kuala Lumpur via Doha with Qatar Airways (Dep 11Nov Ret 19Nov). This will my first long haul flight with Qatar AW and I am very much looking forward to it except that I was somewhat disappointed to hear their flights to Kuala Lumpur are operated by older Airbus A300-600Rs. I would presume that these A/C are not equipped with their latest PTVs found in their newer Airbus A330s.

Anyone knows if their recent delivery of the Airbus A330-300 will pave the way for the KL service A300-600 replacement with the A330-200? I would be delighted to see an A330 waiting at Doha to fly me to KL next week  Smile

I presume you booked yourself on the nonstop flights QR620/621 which goes daily DOH-KUL-CGK. Unfortunately this flight is scheduled to be operated by the A300-600R for the entire winter season at least and the aircraft is not up to the standard of the airline's new A330s. I flew them once between CGK and KUL and C, and the seats were comfortable enough but not top notch. I hear the pitch in Y is limited. QR is expected to send the new equipment over for the next summer season.

KUL is also served with a second flight, which goes four times weekly, and makes an intermediate stop at KTM. Also this flight is operated with the A300. As for the A330s, BKK and DAC are served with the new aircraft. KUL, SIN and CGK are still stuck with the old equipment.

Didn't they operate 320 on the DOH-KTM-KUL vv. route earlier?

They indeed did for a while but they swapped for the A300-600R. Don't know the reason though. I also on't really understand why they connect this KTM route to KUL, unless there are really very large amounts of traffic between the 2 cities. Who on earth, however, would book a one-stop KUL-DOH flight, when a daily non-stop is available?

From time to time KUL-KTM-DOH vv flights are opb A320s most probably due to load. This route mainly serves DOH-KTM vv and KTM-KUL vv traffic and not really intended as DOH-KUL which the non-stop flight is for. But sometimes there are people who book one stop due to connection time or unavailability.
