It basically speaks sbout how S2 is going to utilise Hyderabad on the lines of FRA and will increase the weekly flights to 126 by 2005 and 217 by 2006.
It will also serve S2 international destinitions like London,Singapore and the current ones when Govt. approval is recieved.
It plans to invest 20mn dollars......

The reason for the selection of Hyd. is its location, do yoll think it is a wise decision on S2 part especially when they just have a dozen aircrafts

Hyderabad is underserved as far as domestic routes are concerned. With only Indian Airlines (and of late Air Deccan) having an aircraft overnighting in Hyderabad, this means that to many cities , most of the flights do not make ideal connections for business travellers.

Hence I feel if Sahara is able to have double daily (morning/evening) flights to and from DEL/BOM/MAA/BLR/CCU and PNQ, then they do have a good chance to grab the market. Their biggest threat is going to come from Indian Airlines who already have four A320s and an Aliiance 737s based in Hyderabad and have the flexibility to change schedules to drive out competition. They already have a regular morning and evening departure to MAA /BOM and DEL and I wouldnt be surprised if they rearrange their Alliance Air Schedule ex Hyderabad to take out the Calcutta market as well.

Anyway interesting times ahead.

Excellent choice!! HYD is the city with the most unexploited potential. 9W and IC dominate most of the other potential hubs like BOM, DEL, MAA and BLR and S2 is going to find it very difficult to penetrate into these markets any more than it has.

The decision to bring in the smaller jets like the CRJ200 was also excellent as it enabled S2 to introduce routes that are just not feasible using the larger 737/A320 sized aircraft.

If they had to pick a hub i guess HYD was a good choice because it has alot of potential.

That being said im not sure that the 'hub and spoke' idea is the smartest way to go!!!! Concentrating most flights into one city and feeding it out...... not the best idea.

Great choice of picking HYD!
Hopefully this will spur some movement on Shamshabad International.
Interestingly enough CNN had a link to the story on it's main page. http://edition.cnn.com/2004/TRAVEL/11/08/bt.india.sahara.air.reut/index.html

Cheers,
Kaz

Hyderbad is the best connecting point within India- it's a very wise decision.

IT'S ABOUT TIME !!!

Finally a city of six million people is getting the respect it deserves (at least, in terms of air service)!

By the way, what is the status on the new Shamshabad airport?

Further questions:

Will Air Sahara drop service that does not connect to or from the hub? (example: Ahmedabad-Delhi) Will all resources be placed into HYD?
