PSA Hud's?

I was wondering if anyone knew about PSA flying their MD-80's with a HUD system? I was looking at some history pages and found this one:

Here is the Text If the link didn't work

Another interesting tidbit about PSA's MD-80s is that they were all equipped with HUDs - maybe because of the SFO/SEA fog? They were classified for Cat IIIB landings, although USAir has since removed the hardware. The -80s are all classified for Cat IIIA Autopilot landings, though.

Does any one know if this is true or not? I know you can get a HUD system on some of the NG737's. Also if it is true does anyone have a picture of one?

Thanks and fly safe
-Carl

I remember I flew on a Smilin' Mad Dog back in 1985 and was wondering what the thing was that I saw up by the windshield. The aircraft I was on was N948PS.

Next trip: SLC-LAX-JFK-LAX-SLC on AA, gotta say goodbye to my beloved 762!

Yes, PSA had HUDs. It was the first time I had seen it, maybe 1985-86, riding jumpseat.

I don't understand everything I don't know about this.

PSA had them due to the heavy fog at SFO and other airports on the Western Seaboard. When USAir moved the MD-80's back east, the HUD's were removed due to maintenance expenses.
