can anyone give me advice on how to get "cheap" tickets to europe for the new year, or is it real difficult? it'd be for 3 days or so, exclusively for the new years. looking at london or paris, but if someone has a secret of low fares, i'm open to new destinations.

THANKS!

Goodluck! That's the worst time, or so I have experienced, to buy tickets on any airline for ANYTHING! I'm looking on ORBITZ.COM which has been VERY loyal to me and my travel needs. GSO-CDG leaving on the 28th and getting back on the 4th will bring you to a total of $560 on KLM (GSO-EWR-AMS-CDG) and the same back. CO connection, KLM, and AF. Great group of airlines. The shorter trips will take you up in the 750ish range. CDG will probably prove to be cheaper..

Hope this helps you!

Thanks again.

This is the best time of year to get tickets to Europe. Between September and the middle of May are the times where you can find amazing deals to europe. If I were you, I would just check all the major airline websites plus Orbitz. Travelocity used to be great, but has been lacking in recent years. Expedia has always been horribly expensive.
This season though, especially out of where you would want to go from (GSO, RDU, CLT), the prices are not great. The best prices are to be had if you leave 12/30 and return 1/3. The short stay is helping jack up the price.

Using a departure of Dec 29 - returning Jan 2, I found:

cheaptickets.com:
GSO-ATL-LGW-ATL-GSO $750.47 total on DL,
GSO-IAD-LHR-IAD-GSO $709.41 total on UA,
GSO-JFK-AMS-JFK-GSO $601.86 total on DL,
GSO-JFK-BRU-JFK-GSO $616.04 total on DL,
GSO-PHL-CDG-PHL-GSO $809.24 total on US

Check mobissimo.com occasionally, as they scan the databases of a number of travel sites all at once. Besides cheaptickets.com, they list onetravel.com and destina.ca as all having low-ish fares for the time you're traveling.

Cheers  Smile

Edit: Changing the return date to Jan 3rd does cost less, by around $100 or so, such as $505.44 round-trip on NW GSO-MEM-AMS-EWR-GSO from airfare.com
