Without having any information on this flight, I would guess a mechanical problem. Is their something unique about this flight? There are many flights canceled every day by airlines and unless you happen to on one, it is no big deal. If you were on one, then you would probably know why it canceled or at least what the airline said.

Excessive ATC delays. The ATL operation has been thinned out due to ATC.
It's a big building with patients, but that's not important right now.

When I can, I fly in the middle of the week. This said, when I fly into ISP, the loads are quite low on wed. at 11pm. I once too them from CVG and got bumpbed along with the other 6 people aboard to the next flight. It was quite funny. They cannot just cancel the flight for lack of passengers but, if there is a mx issue with another a/c, they can sub ours for theirs and we are stuck w/out a plane. It's a loop hole but if the flight out of ISP is full the next day, they would have to send us 7 out.

Just an FYI anytime someone sees a flight cancelled or someone sees a strange flight # on a flight tracker, you'll see a thread on it asking why.
