I didn't notice that and I flew 4 trips last year with Alitalia
Amstedam - Milan (A319)
Milan - Bucharest (MD8?)
Bucharest - Milan (MD8?)
Milan - Amsterdam (MD8?)
But what I did notice is that their MD aircraft have the best economy seats.
I mean 2 and 2? (they go to 3 and 2 toward the back)
I loved Alitalia. And the wine was awesome

Don`t think so.
Maybe some a/cs upholstery are fading, but in general they are sparkling clean.

s it true [or did I dream this up]
You dreamed it up.
I just checked 3 different pictures of AZ interiors (763, M80, 319) that i took just 2 weeks ago and none of them show anything similar to what you are describing.

You are not dreaming it up...
Alitalia's MD-11 interiors had darker shades of grey as you went toward the back. The interior was designed by Armani, including the seat color and wall coloring...
Their current fleet varies. All short-haul aircraft have green seats with green carpeting, with the MD-80's having a design that two shades of green in economy.
Long-haul aircraft (777/767's) are grey interiors. Magnifica is slightly lighter in color with grey and white walls, economy class is a darker shade of grey seating with white/grey walls.
Some see lines, others see between the lines.
