Sorry if this topic was discussed before, but I have a question regarding the tail scheme of Frontier Airlines. Are they painted or is it some sort of "thin film with some sort of pressure sensitive adhesive"?

From Frontier's website:
"The decal application is almost like one giant contact paper project. The image is printed on "transfers" that have the image on one side and a peel back adhesive on the other. The chemical structure is not really the same as contact paper, but the process is essentially the same. The decals last up to five years. Damage to the decals occurs due to wind erosion, repairs on the tail structure and sunlight. However the tails are regularly maintained."

We have had problems in the past with adhesion near the leading edge, but we have taken steps to halt thet. From N935FR and on you should not see any peeling. The prior aircraft will be retro-fitted as they go through 'C' check.
