Heard a rumor from an ExpressJet F/A on a flight today that COEX will be getting some ERJ170s in the near future. Interesting option if CO does actually start dropping their 737-500s.
Apologies if this appears in another thread, I was unable to find anything in a search.

I think it's a great idea...they need something in between the ERJ and the 735. However I think CO pilots have a scope clause...the planes would have to hold under 70 pax I believe...making it not quite as lucrative.

I think sooner or later it will happen.......people are not completely satisfied with the ERJ like they were when they came out.....with times changing we need to keep our customers happy and sooner or later the 170 will have to do the trick.

GTFO. I'm one of the crazy people who actually like riding on 135s/145s.... nothing like seat 1A, except when the window gets all scratched up from the jetways. Of course I'll take the F upgrade on the larger aircraft all day long....
Hopefully one of these days when I get tired of doing network engineering and have my CPL/MEL/IR and 1200/200, I can move from 1A up to 0B, and maybe eventually 0A.

its just that the 145's have lost its magic.....when those things first came out they were the greatest things in the world for the elite members...they loved them....but that was over 4 years ago....we need something else that will attract them again and really love our planes.. (yes i know they already do) just a figure of speech

I hope we get them! I've also heard a ton of rumors about possibly flying them under the ExpressJet banner, since that "dinosaur" scope clause still in place with CO.

Rumor between Expressjet pilots is quite strong that they'll be aquiring big Embraers soon as well. However, that having been said, it's just a rumor and pilots don't run the company.

Um, ERJ170s don't exist. EMB170s do. Remember, this is not the same line as the ERJ 135/145.

Well, considering the tension between the Expressjet pilots and management right now, they will probably ask for a big pay raise to incorporate the planes. Also, considering the strength of ALPA at CO mainline (expressjet are also ALPA) I am sure they will have something to say about any change to mainline flying. I actually think that the 170s could be used to expand flying, and not replace a single 737

It would certainly liven up CLE spotting
As for the practical aspect, an ERJ170 or one of the new ERJ's would fit in nicely with the rest of CO's fleet when the 735's are factored out. Something needs to take the 735's place. Plus, it couldn't hurt to add a few more regional aircraft.

While we're discussing the E170, Trans States Airlines is going to buy some and operate them under the name "New Air" due to scope clauses. I know this doesn't have anything to do with CO, but I just thought I'd add that in.

Well my search to find if this thread had been run before took a whole 5 seconds.
Unless CO changes its Scope Clause, COX will not see the Embraer 170. There was some mention of 'training' but that most likely would be for 'on-call' to cover other operators that fly the -170. Here in BNA USAirways Express (MidAtlantic) are covered by American.

SHUpirate,
My bad, its called "New Corp Air". There are other articles about Trans States more than likely getting E170's I'm just too lazy to look them up.

717's would be a good plane, but doesn't make sense for CO... They are getting rid of the last few MD-80's they have which would eliminate any semblance of commonality... With the E170, employees will have so experience with the other ERJ's so it isn't totally new... Not to mention CO/ExpressJet seem to have a strong relationship with Embraer.

The 170 looks like a nice enough plane to be in CO colors,

With the amount of ERJ-135's and 145's already in Expressjet, It seems logical that they would seriously consider upgrading/supplementing/ expanding the fleet to a higher capacity model, i.e. the 170.
We already see the Chautauqua and MidAtlantic 170s here in IAH, so some familiarity already exists from other carriers having them here.

I have a hunch you'll se a CO or XJT order for the 170 in the near future. Lord knows, there are markets that are too big for a 145, but can't support a 735, that the 170 would be perfect for here in CLE.
I'm hoping it does happen in the next few years. I think XJT is waiting to resolve it's contract with the pilots first before doing anything about that.

On a similar topic, with the NW pilots contract stating that pinnacle can't fly anymore crj and NW pilots are to fly the routes with smaller a/c , does that mean some erj's are on order.
What does the new contract mean in reguards to who is flying what a/c.
