I know the Carolina Panthers usually charter a US Airways 757-200 or 767-200. They are playing in San Francisco today so I would guess it will probably be a 762. I think all of US's 762's are ER...but I am not sure on that.

"You couldn't fit all the cargo in the bins that NFL teams like to take with them, but they could always leave some behind. There is barely enough room in a 757 for what they would like to take."
It didn't seem to be a problem when TW had a 727 fly them around.
Anyway, does anybody know what type of configuration these a/c have? I always ask this question but it seems like nobody knows . . . I can't see a lineman sit in a Y seats with 32'' pitch!

Pretty good size bins in the 727. I wasn't saying they couldn't use a smaller aircraft it would just limit some the amount of equipment they bring.
Anyway, does anybody know what type of configuration these a/c have?
Its a standard configured aircraft; nothing special. The linemen aren't crammed in middle seats or anything as they typically will have 3 seats in the middle section of a 767 or 3 seats to themselves on a 757. Usually on the NFL charters there is always a seat next to you open.
It's a big building with patients, but that's not important right now.

Here's a really stupid question about transport, for both military and sports. How do they (the passengers) decide who sits where. I know that for example, UA loaned some of its 744s to the US Military for transports. Which lucky guys get the first suites, and which get regular coach?

Um that was a different era of football. Now you have a ton of equipment, a ton of cry baby players who need extra room. The B757 is a minimum sized aircraft in my opinion. And plus they still have to use ground sources to bring in some of their equipment. I am from TYS, and the University of Tennessee uses DL for their charters. Typically they use the B757( depending on the size of the airport they are flying to) for the players, staff, and personnel bags. They then truck their equipment. This is a college team, so I figure the pros have it even more luxurious.

>There aren't enough games in an NFL season to make it worth it to purchase an aircraft. MLB would be more apt to purchasing an aircraft.<
Righto. In fact, I believe every MLB team (except the Expos, who are owned by MLB) owns their own plane. It is just practical. Otherwise, I would assume they charter one for the whole year.
In the NBA, some teams own and some charter. NW is big on chartering planes to the NBA, often their retired from PAX service 727s. I know the Lakers own their own plane and contract an airline to fly it.
>The Eagles took a NW 742 to Dallas, It came in at 10am to pick them up. Good Luck Eagles!
Looks like the Eagles upgraded. In the past they would use NW 752s. That's probably the only time one would see a NW plane larger than a A320 at PHL.<
NW allows (during the regular season) one upgrade to a DC-10 and one upgrade to a 742. During the playoffs, it is all widebodies.

I know on the military charters that I've flown on several stripes or some brass on your collar got you a seat up front. I would assume that the coaching staff sits in the F or C cabins on these charters.

There was a "Champion Air" 727-200 at PHX-Skyharbor on Saturday, parked about 200 meters west of Gate 7 at Terminal 3 (in between terminals 2&3). Is that the plane that the Giants took to the game, or was that Washington State's plane (they were in town playing the ASU Sundevils)?
Looking at the Champion Air website, they state that College and Pro charters are their game.
