Swiss posts it's first quarterly profit since they started in 2002. Profit was 15 million Swiss francs, fuel extra costs in this quarter alone were 35 million Swiss francs.

Last year's Q3 result was -276 million Swiss francs.

RJ100 have a look at Swiss press release which says:

Swiss International Air Lines achieved a profit from operating activities of CHF 20 million for the third quarter of 2004 – the three-month period which is traditionally the strongest of the year. The result compares to a loss from operating activities (before restructuring costs) of CHF 62 million for the prior-year period.

.....up there with the best!

Very, very good news from Switzerland !
I hope the new concept works as Switzerland needs Swiss.
Apart of that I am happy that the concept works even with the strong competition around on the longhaul routes. There was a time were I was afraid they could only manage with European operation such as SN.
Hopefully they can think in some small expansions. Why don´t they return to CCS ? Now that KL and BA have left ?

Epa Chiguire!

If LX were to come to CCS that would be a dream come true...(seria una maravilla!)

But realistically, I don't think it will happen anytime soon. All their long-haul planes are currently very busy serving their other destinations. There was a story a while back that SWISS was looking to add two more A340-300s, but according to CEO Franz this won't be happening anytime soon.

However, even if the two A340-300s were coming, I doubt they would open new destinations. More probably they would increase frequencies to LAX, JNB, GRU, SIN, BKK, NRT, etc. Right now some of these destinations are only getting 5 flights a week.

But hey...you never know. And if they do come to CCS, I'd be the first to book the flight!!!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Saludos,
Patrick

The result didn't get a positive feedback in the Swiss media at all and at the end of the year, no one cares about Q3. It is the year which counts ...

At least a small glimps of a positive change. Swiss also announced, that there is a big possibilty of cutting again hundreds of jobs in Switzerland.

I hope the new concept works

What do you mean by "new concept"?

Swissgabe, why was it so critically received in Switzerland?

@AirMale: Yes I know that they will have a full year loss. I just posted the numbers here. I did not say if the result were good or bad  Big grin

@Chiguire, Poh2: Good to see some positive minded people here! Although I hope that Swiss will make it, I would not say Switzerland needs Swiss. Geneva, Basel and Bern proved that foreign carriers will take the market opportunities if Swiss cuts.
