Tomorrow marks the debut of the UA 777 in the Star Alliance livery! Although the only US hub to see this a/c will be ORD for the first week, it will going back and forth to Asia, specifically PVG, KIX and PEK. If you time your trip to ORD to match the Asian inbds and outbds, you should be able to see it.
On the new livery topic, the first 747 will be going into the paint shop in the next day or two. Aircraft 8196, N8196UA will have the honors of receiving the new livery first, replacing N8194UA at the last second.

Ahhh.. Do you know the registration for the Star 777?

I was thinking that too. It was not a coincidence that the new livery 777 flew the Oscars back in February. It would be great marketing to see a blue and white 747 make the inaugural to SGN. It will definitely be finished by Dec 9.

I don't see what's the rush in painting so many aircraft in the Star Alliance livery, which is nothing more than a white fuselage with a black tail and some silly letters that look like a giant bumper sticker.
Why don't they bother to get a real, eye-catching special livery like CO's Peter Max? Doesn't even have to be that elaborate, just something that is a pleasure to see, at least in ONE of their planes.
That will make ALL people notice, instead of just the airplane geeks.

Is it just me that thinks this or does anyone else out there also think that the current Star Alliance billboard scheme is unimaginative and flavorless?

I first opposed the new Star livery but I have changed my mind. It looks quite fresh and it's eye catching - and in contrast to other special liveries (e.g. Peter Max) not only aviation fans realize the purpose of it: advertisement, in this case for the Star Alliance brand.
However, shame on Singapore Airlines for turning the Star livery on their own aircraft into one ugly mixture of paint.
Can't wait to see N218UA. The colors look great on the 777...as ANA has shown once more again with the -300ER!

Anyone know where this plane is flying the next few days? I've got a trip out of ORD next week, and it would be nice to see this aircraft. I wonder if it's being routed out today to Asia? Can't wait to see the picture of the 'craft!

My dad's a CSR for UA at ORD, so I'll make him bring my digital tomorrow.

I'm with you, I totally dislike the scheme, don't even like the star logo. I would say unimaginative and flavorless is an understatement
I mean do airlines think these planes look good or something in this livery? Seems now every alliance member is painting one of each aircraft type in these black and white "colors" that make you fall asleep when you see 'em.

I saw it this morning on my way out of work. It was parked by the run-up box across from the AA hangar with air stairs pulled up to it. I was to far away to get the N number. Looks better than I thought it would though.

How nice, UA painted a 777 in Star Alliance livery for my birthday. Pretty cool for someone who will go from 5426 lifetime miles (though I have flown much more with UA/LH, it is only recently that I got Mileage Plus) to Premier next year.

I can confirm that UA has a '67 in *A colors. Saw it at IAD yesterday. Bad part was that it was on the other side of the a/c from me, so I couldn't get a good pic of it

We'll probably see some RJs in the STAR livery, like US has been doing. You'd think UA would want more planes in their new livery rather than the STAR livery, to get it more widely known.
26 Sunilgupta: it used to be beautiful ...and utterly impractical. Once the alliance grew past the original six members (UA, SK, TG, RG, LH, AC) they had to abandon
