When is UA planning on painting an airbus? Also why are they taking so long to paint planes?

They are painting planes as they need to be done. The Airbus fleet are relatively new, so they aren't in dire need of paint yet... The ones that needed paint first probably found themselves in Ted livery.

Caution wake turbulence, you are following a heavy jet.

The paint is being done as needed. This could be at the end of heavy maintenance, or whenever the aircraft is due. There is no "plan" or "schdule" to repaint the fleet...

No idea

<< Also why are they taking so long to paint planes? >>

Because they're flippin' broke! They should be spending the $$$ on keeping their F/As off the picket line. New scheme is wonderful I agree, but you don't go out and buy a new car when you're financials are in the crapper . . .

With the 2 A320s being converted to TED this month (to support Mexico flying), the total of Airbii in the new paint job (albeit TED, not the blue one) will be in the mid to upper-forties.

I remember the question of number of TED a/c came up before, and I know there is publication somewhere that states 23 a/c have been painted, but those numbers are out-of-date.

Unimatic display pages DIS/2062 and DIS/2046/2047 have more updated figures. DIS/2062 shows 45 a/c in TED colors (they have a different a/c number and are specified as "AY" versus "AB" or "AU". With the additionof N440UA and N441UA this month, the total should go up to 47.

With TED now up to 198 daily departures, 23 planes would not be able to cover the schedule.

And UA also lost an A320 to Blue Wings. N450UA was first delivered to UA on July 29th 1998 and on March 4th 2004 Blue Wings took possesion of this a/c. The reg. changeing to from N450UA to D-ALEX and on March 30th 2004 D-ALEX went to Mahan Air and on July 1st 2004 D-ALEX changed to EP-MHJ. Airbus reg. of F-WWBN. This is the first Airbus a/c of United to leave the fleet if I'm correct. Anyone know why this a/c was with Blue Wings for such a short time?

This isn't the first a/c that was went from Blue Wings to Mahan Air. An A321 airbus reg. D-AVZU was delivered to Swissair on Feb. 14th 1995. On March 31st, 2002 the airline changed to Swiss Airlines. In March of 2003 the lease ran up and the a/c went back to ILFC. On December 1st 2003 the a/c went to Blue Wings as D-ANJA. And on Feb. 12th 2004 the Blue Wings a/c went to Mahan. This a/c is Sub Leased form Blue Wings but what about the other a/c.

Thanks for any help, just thought this was interesting.

Take Care,

Some corrections to that,

N775UA is painted in the new colorscheme, and the 747 isn't yet finished (correct me if I'm wrong). Also, 2 more 757s will be painted in the new colors, and one triple will be painted in the Star Alliance livery.

Don't have the numbers in front of me, but UA has been painting 1 757 in the new livery approximately every 2 weeks as they transition to the PS service. I believe 3 additional ones have been done so far. They fly in the old configuration for approximately one week before being reconfigured.

Also TED has over 31 A320s painted now because Mike Carter has spotted 31 A320s in TED colors and there are more than that listed in the JP Fleets that he has not spotted.

Also, there are 8 737s in the new livery, not 5: (N385UA, N394UA, N377UA, N376UA, N390UA, N388UA, N366UA, N381UA)

Plus all the UAX aircraft, but I guess those don't count.

The newest 757 to be painted is N512UA. Saw it after it came in from AMA the other day.
