The photo was taken at GoodYear AZ. There are quite a few birds stored out there. DL had 23 737-200's there at one time. Last time I was there USAirways had three A 319's parked.
I will be there in mid Feb.......again.....
safe

It was most likely leased, and UA didn't renew it. They got rid of a couple -300s along with the 23 -500s from what I heard. No use keeping the plane if you don't need it.

The cargo door mod is very interesting, and I'd be very interested to see who is picking this up, and whether this will be operated as a QC, F, or Combi(unlikely) version.

Wasn't FX looking for some 737F's? I read somewhere that they bought some or picked up leased birds from UA, perhaps this is one of them? I just hope UA is getting something out of it, rather than just losing an aircraft...

European:

I think you're right...FedEx wanted to get some 737 freighters, so it would make sense that they're buying some used ones from UA.

Just noticed this...why is it in Beijing? Perhaps a Chinese carrier is taking it as a frieghter? See the 2nd pic.  Big grin

I guess it's in Beijing at Ameco for maintenance before being delivered to it's new operator - not sure if Ameco does pax-to-cargo conversions as well, but that could have been done at quite a few points in the world.

Eventually, it's owners will simply have gotten the best maintenance deal from Ameco - explaining why the plane is in Beijing: this does not give any indication whether it's new operator will be an Asian airline.

Frank

Hello,

according to airfleets.net the operator is or will be Hainan airlines. This goes for N356UA and N357UA.

N774UA

Boeing sometimes does cargo mods out of the country for what ever reason. There was an Ex BA 757 that had a cargo door mod in Tel-Aviv then ferried to KARA for repaint to DHL.
