Nice to see new service into FLL from SLC. Delta is making good on their promise to ramp up the remaining hubs. Hopefully it won't be just for season. It give us folks here in South Fla other options to head west. And it is a 757!
Anybody think they might start up SLC-PBI someday? Would be great considering they have halted PBI-DFW.

And something I forgot to mention...South FL-SLC had decent O&D considering it was not served nonstop...O&D usually goes up when nonstop servcie is introduced...plus connection opportunities and I see 2X FLL-SLC as just the beginning...it could go a number of ways from there, but it all looks positive

The only thing in the past before Delta that had Utah-Florida service was Western. They had a DC-10 that left SLC at 8:05AM and stopped in LAX before blasting off for the orange groves. But they only had this from 1975-1979. Well, those are the schedules it is in...

It's good to see DL ramping up a bit in SLC. They're advertising heavily here in the SLC area with about 20 or so billboards advertising their non-stop service to several key markets. "Start Spreading the News, 4 Daily non-stops to New York City" "Go visit your ante, 4 daily non-stops to Las Vegas" "Now in Session, 3 daily non-stops to Washington DC" I wish them well.
The problem they have in Salt Lake City is that they're seen as an "expensive" airline. I just talked to a friend the other day that was on his way to New York. I asked him which airline and he said JetBlue. Why JetBlue? I asked. Oh, because DL is too expensive... Funny because he paid more for his flight on JetBlue than I did to fly my friend Kara out to meet me in New York last weekend on Delta. Sure, the PTVs are nice, but being able to buy dinner/breakfast/etc in coach is nicer, plus a 767-300ER with 2-3-2 is more comfortable than the A320 with 3-3. And you don't have to fly a redeye to get the cheap price!
DL is very agressive here in SLC on price. The only time they're higher is if it's a key market in the east without a saturday night stay and you're looking at non-stop prices. But if you don't mind one connection, they beat or match everyone out of SLC. I'm doing my best to sell everyone I know on them, because the more $$ they make in SLC, the more they'll invest, and the more non-stop choices I'll have when it's time to head to the skies.

I'd imagine that this new service is in response to FLL losing the DFW hop here soon when DFW shrinks down...gotta have a westward presence somehow, and SLC is an excellent choice....build that place up and keep B8 out.

Is this new? We've usually flown WN SJC-SLC with a stop in RNO, or driven the extra distance to OAK to fly WN nonstop to SLC, because DL usually quotes around $450 for an SJC-SLC round trip. But we were surprised to be able to buy our daughter a SLC-SJC round trip on DL for the Christmas holidays for $180 including taxes. I'm wondering what happened.

DL isn't expensive in SLC, it's just the perception. For Origination traffic in Utah, DL has to have people perceive they're affordable. Easier said than done. I know people that will just book WN because they perceive they're the cheapest. From there level of service, it's an understandable perception. However, they are usually more expensive than DL on 14 day fares, and there's always a connection heading east.
Another funny thing, I've noticed DL will match WN's fare specials. So if you see a great price on WN, check DL and if it's the same route they fly, you'll get the same price, and often have a better choice of flights. WN's cheapest fares seem to be limited to tues, wed & sat.
Last time I went to SJC about a year ago, we paid around $140, so I don't think the pricing is new. Depending on the time of day you were looking, there are less cheap fares available if it's a CRJ. Those LUT fares sell out fast. Having said that, DL knows it has the only non-stop to SJC and charges accordingly.
I'm heading to SMF if a few weeks... I paid $178. The last flight of the day from SMF is a CRJ and that came out to be over $400 on an M fare. Pretty pricey.

I live near PBI and go to the airport to watch the planes there quite a bit. I pretty familiar with the flights there too. I don't think there will be too many changes to the flights out of PBI anytime soon. One thing I've noticed from PBI departures is that there usually isn't too many new destinations. It's usually the same flights from the same airlines. Matter of fact I can't recall a commercial flight out of PBI that goes any farther west than DFW. This is just based on my own observations not fact.

I have to agree. I've heard Europe a lot FRA, LGW, but no one has actually doen anything about it.
SLC could probably handle a lot more traffic than it does - all the flights I'm on are consistently full. DL's routes seem oddly chosen from SLC. SLC still has no service to AUS, CLE, EGE, IND, MDW, MIA, PIT; yet we will have service to XNA and FAI and until recently we had 733 (I think) service to PSC. I can't believe it's not until recently that SLC has had no service to BWI, CUN, DCA, EUG, FLL, HDN, HNL, MSY. It seems like DL has been letting SLC go into an OO hub and is just barely realized its importance. I would like to see DL try some international service other than CUN, YYC, YVR (and I remember that YYC used to be served by DL not OO). By the way, why did CO stop SLC-CLE?
DL seems a bit apathetic in our market - the billboards are about all there is - and they do nothing to combat the price myth, they only mention DL's frequent service, which everyone knows anyway.

I'm glad we'll finally be getting WN MDW service (how I missed that I don't know). I'm also glad the 733 is going to PSC, but still can't figure out why PSC gets the 733 with some of the other destinations that only get the CRJ.

SLC-MSY was flown twice daily with 727's and 757's from 1997 through 2001. Before that it was a single daily 727 which was a hold over from the Western days. Thank goodness nonstop service will be returning in the market. 2 daily 733 flights start on 1/1. On 2/1, the flights go to all 738/M90.
