Boeing 747-300 Winglets Retrofit; Ever Ordered?

I remember that at one time in history Boeing offered a retrofit of Boeing 747-400 style winglets to Boeing 747-300 owners. The number of 300 series metal produced is rather small and the number of operators was also limited (CX, QF, SN, SQ, SR come to mind).

I can't recall that any operator did actually order the modification onto any Boeing 747-300. Does anybody know of a Boeing 747-300 that was applied the upgrade?

I would have loved to see SN's last and very new (OO-SGD; a Boeing 747-300 delivered while others were already taking the 400, fools) - or even its predecessor (OO-SGC) - fly with winglets. Especially that it already had the redesigned wing to body connection of the later serie if I'm not mistaken.

Any details welcome!

No, none of the 743's were modified with winglets. In 2000, Boeing along with Aviation Partners Inc, applied what is now called a blended wing design to a former Flying Tigers 747F, which differ from winglets because of the smooth upward joint other than a hard angle like on the 744's.

Sources say that the last 747-300 delivered to JAA didn't have winglets but had the wing design of the 400 already in production.

I wouldn't be suprised if it happens. JL seems to have a fair number of 743 and I heard that 4 or so went and got upgrades. So in the future, they might upgrade the wings. (Just a thought)

Jetjack74, that sounds pretty cool - do you know if there were any pictures of that particular mod? And if it ever flew?

Yeah that's the aircraft that was used as a testbed for the wing mods. They're aim was to modify the generic whales to improve efficiency. It's real aim is to make the freighters more economical. Passenger versions of the 200 are dwindling faster tahn we can count. They're the same design as seen on the 737NG's.
