My travel flight from Harstad/Narvik airport, Evenes (EVE) in Norway slided off the runway before take off yesterday evening at approx. 2230h local time. The MY travel A320 was carrying 118 passengers and 7 crew members and on its way to Norwich. The passengers had been on whale watching (killer whale) at the Norwegian coast in Northern-Norway (Ofotfjorden).
After the slide all passengers had to leave the plane and was picked up by buses and driven back to the terminal. No injuries. They were then booked on hotels in Harstad for the night. The airport was closed after the incident and the evening flight from Oslo by SAS Braathens had to go to Tromsø (TOS) for the night.
The runway at Harstad/Narvik airport - EVE is almost 3 km long. It had snow on the runway which is normal for the winter time.

Here are one of the articles in Norwegain newspaper including a picture:

Hmmm...do they not have snow ploughs to get snow off the runway in Norway?

When you hear the noise of the Tartan Army Boys, we'll be coming down the road!

Yes we do in deed. No problem for Scandinavian pilots at all......

Since this happend taxiing to take off I guess the snow is not to blame here.
