As per different sources, HM will go offline in ZRH and FRA from 01APR05.

The airline returns a 738 to the leasing company and some flights have to be replaced with their 763. Another reason would be the bigger competition on the FRA-SEZ route with EK and QR.

Very sad to see leaving an airline which was 17 years in Zurich!

HM does not operate a 738 rather a 737-700.

Do you know if flights to Rome continue to operate as usual?

Which destinations will survive in Europe?

Thanks

Bye

There was no talk about FCO so I think it will remain. Also remain would CDG and LHR. Does HM fly to another European destination?

Well well, tell me why I should know how QR is doing in Switzerland ...
I only know that they are filling some seats with pretty good deals (buying the market).

Right, one source mentiond a 738, but they could mean a their 7NG

Swissgabe,
As the reason to stop flying to ZRH is also due to tough competiton by the Gulf carriers I suppose the recent opening of QR is part of the decison. As stated by TO's at least 40% of the market has been swallowed by Gulf carriers till QR establshed there...I just wanted to make sure that we misestimate no major point on that thread.

Well, there are different main reasons why big TO's would shift from HM to Gulf carriers (EK and QR).

One of course would be the flexibility you get beside having an airline offering a one weekly flight from ZRH to SEZ (partly not even non-stop but via FCO).
Another reason could be decissions such as getting as much revenue as possible to reach an incentive target.

So maldives, Seychelles an Mauritius are the three liked to the gulf hubs with at least 3-7 connections a week. So TOs have a lot more opportunity to negociate deals with Gulf companies instead of relying on a one weekly service. The question is how future will look for Air Seychelles as their sole markets besides Europe is a weekly connection to SIN and Johannesburgh.

I see Air Mauritius a lot more strong as they diversify the offer and are backed up by a lot of ethnic/Buisness ties with Asia.

Emirates commences a thrice weekly service from DXB to SEZ with A330s. Flights start on Dec 2nd.

More competition to both HM and QR.

Can we expect an ease on the extremely inflated ticket prices?

Flew Air Seychelles during the summer on the JNB-SEZ route. Got to fly on their sole 737-700 and the 767-300. I found the flights offered excellent service, yet the 767 flight was dead empty. I really don't see why they would be getting rid of the 73G when it had a fairly good utilisation rate and is perfect for their flights to Dubai, Johannesburg, Mumbai, and their island flights. For many of these destinations the 767 would be too big and if they continued these destinations they would probably have to downgrade the frequency to weekly which is not very competitive. The airline last year made a decent profit and is planned to be privitized, so we'll see how these announcements fit in with their long-term plan.

Do you have so where they will redeploy their A319LR if the A300 takes on.
