At ORD today I saw a 744 being loaded with cargo going to AEX. From what I saw there were no pax. Also last night a 777 left from ORD to AEX. Is this for a charter or are these being sold to a new operator?
BTW, the 747 flight number was 9983, and the 777 was 9975.

Thanx

Probably a military charter...there's a bunch of them popping up of late as troops are due to be swapped out and return home for the Christmas holidays.

Just a guess...

It was definitely a military charter. My grandmother lived in Alexandria until she died recently, right next to that airport. There were military charters there all the time. AEX never sees aircraft that big except for unscheduled service (a.k.a. charter or military flights)

Back in '99 I flew in a Tower 747 from AEX to COS after a month spent training at lovely Ft. Polk.

Tell me about it, dude. I've flown Tower 747, ATA 757/L1011, and Evergreen 747 to AEX for numerous rotations. Hell, I've even had a couple charter bus trips. LOL

Those are troop movements. Those 744s are heading to Kuwait next.

Yep, they definitely came here to pick up troops of the Idaho Nat. Guard. They had been here training at Ft. Polk, and now they are going to Kuwait.
The aircraft were N799UA and N117UA. Later on, we also had B744 N178UA come in from SFO for more soldiers.

They were all heading to FRA from here.
