Syrian got 5th freedom rights on the following routes:

Manchester
Casablanca (old)
Madrid

I know they already operate BRU and TUN.

Madrid.. They did operate in the past (two summers ago)

But Manchester.. where did that come from? Is there a market from BEY?

Your help needed.

Are they operating these routes or did they just get the rights?

Well if you've been following the news lately, Lebanon and the EU signed an Open Skies agreement with Lebanon.

Although Morocco isn't in the EU, so that must be separate.

Could you post more info as in where you heard this?

The DAM-BEY-TUN-CMN flight does not operate in the winter or spring. Right now they only have DAM-BEY-BRU.

Regards

It was officially approved yesterday by both governments. I suspect that Syrain would like to operate this flights at some point in the future (probably in the summer).

I got a good laugh out of that. Since when did market size have any impact on Syrian's planning process?

Well said LegendDC9! Hopefully Syrianair will be squeezed out of the EU market altogether, if the dictatatorship of Syria doesn't respond to resolution 1559 soon.

Well,

I was afraid when I read the post. Glad old syrian junk planes won't come on the big routes like LHR, CDG or FRA... I would have been angry...

Let them do their super plans, why not DAM-BEY-KEF or DAM-BEY-ABZ?  Wink/being sarcastic

Hopefully, soon it won't be a problem...

Guys...who cares what Syrian does....

if they are operating flights and providing convenience to passengers in and out of BEY... why is that a problem.....

You gotta think positive. I like many others, do recognize the problems infliced by Syrians in Lebanon, but why doesn't Iberia, or Royal Air Maroc or....whoever step up and start providing flights...

I thought everyone can fly to or from Beirut from anywhere. So Varig, JAL, Air Canada, BMI Baby and Air Niugini have fifth freedom rights at BEY - everyone except El Al (obviously). Hell, I have fifth freedom rights at BEY (I don't even own a car, let alone a 737, but anyway). So I don't see how this is news, until Syrianair start flying these routes (BEY to MAN on an RB 747SP - sounds good to me).

fly Saha Air 707s daily from Tehran's downtown Mehrabad to Mashhad, Kish Island and Ahwaz

All three of these routes are fairly feasible at the right time of the year.

Madrid and Manchester have very large Lebanese and Syrian population centers. This of course would make them good routes throughout the summer season. It's becoming increasingly easier for Lebanese to fly back to Lebanon as more service becomes direct.

Does anybody have news about the Damascus International Airport renovations?

I have seen their airport on DVD and it was horrid in my opinion. Small run-down terminal building with only three or four jetways. Also a very bad taxiway system.
