I was looking at the CLT airport's website, and noticed a history section. In it they say Delta started service to CLT in 1956, and show a picture that looks the old CLT terminal and pictured there are two Delta L1011's. I know the picture along with the date of 1956 isn't correct, but is the picture correct that they flew L1011's to CLT at one time, and if so, where did they fly them too?
The site won't let me create a direct link so I will have to give directions to it...
go to
www.charlotteairport.com
on the left side click "about CLT"
Under "Facts and Figures" click "Airport History" in the center of the page.
scroll down to 1956.

Ryefly-
When I first moved to Charlotte in 1991, ***OCCASIONALLY*** Delta L-1011's came in... Usually during particularly high traffic times such as the day before Thanksgiving and certain other peak traffic days... With my own eyes I only saw it once, but was told it did happen from time to time.
Can't speak to the picture... I have no idea what the terminal looked like back in the 70's/80's or whenever that picture was taken... I wouldn't be surprised though if there were Tri-Stars every day... Delta had so many and used them on so many routes... And there was a time (though it seems so long ago) when we had a daily 747 from LH. CLT used to have a lot more heavy stuff back in the day...

From what I can remember back in the 70's both DL and EA flew L-1011's between CLT-ATL on a scheduled basis from time to time, I saw an EA L-1011 at CLT on a visit to the old terminal observation deck in 1976 !
And the above picture looks like it was taken from the observation deck and is probably very rare, as I think DL's L-1011 schedules were always once a day, evening arrival, early morning departure !

Thanks for the replies. I thought the picture was odd seeing two L1011's in Delta's scheme at CLT. The photographer must have been lucky that day.

Could of the Delta L-1011's came in during Nascar Weekends at Charlotte Motor Speedway? (I refuse to call it Lowes Motor Speedway) I know Delta sends down 767's to DAB during race weekends.

Delta did several charters on behalf of insurance companies taking their employees on annual trips to Hawaii. I remember a few of these coming into SDF in the late '70s.
