Support Airliners.net - become a First Class Member!

It's no surprise. They announced that they were going to close a hub. You didnt expect all of them to keep their jobs did you?

WOW, that's a huge cut-back.
I thought that FL was going to pick much of the employees.
The fares won't go up that much as the video says-FL will probably lower costs further.

This sounds like much more of a crash dive than the earlier plan. Something had better happen soon in Bk court or none of this may be salvagable.

Sorry and hopes for the best to all my friends at ATA.TC

Thanks Aa717Driver.....all of us ATA employees kind of feel lost right now. We're hoping for America West to take us over as they want to take all of us, whereas AirTran only wants a portion. We'll see what happens. Theres not too much we can do. Its sad to see us go here at MDW!

"Air Tran, which is negotiating to take over ATA’s gates at Midway, is a much different airline, Goolsbee said.
“If you want to fly from Chicago to New York on Air Tran, most likely you would have to fly from Midway to Atlanta and then from Atlanta to New York, and not many people are going to want to do that,” he said.

Austan should find more out before speaking. He should realize that AirTran is going to hub at Midway, not just sending connecting flights through ATL once the operation is in place. What drama! lol If I held stock in FL and found out FL was going to take over expensive leases on 14 gates for flights to ATL, then I would take my money somewhere else ASAP!

It's sad to see the lay-offs but from what I understand, FL is willing to hire the former ATA employees which is better than nothing at all. I've been through the same situation before and we had nothing at all. At least ATA has the opportunity to hold its roots in IND, I wish them the best.

"Life is short, but your delay in ATL is not."

This Goolsbee sounds like a typical econ prof with no real world airline experience. Wonder why Air Tran is purchasing ATA LGA slots if they are gonna connect thru ATL? DUH....

Does anyone know, if ATA will keep up their their flights from the Mainland out to Hawaii?

In this very difficult situation ATA is right now, there is no way, that TZ will start MDW-CGN-MDW flights next summer! Or am I completely wrong?

Well, my heart with all of you ATA workers and lets keep ATA flying as long as possible!

Regards
N593HA
