Now that Air New Zealand has been operating into SFO for almost 6 months, I was wondering if anyone knows how the loads are doing on the SFO-Auckland route. Thanks.

If SFO is performing better than expected, why not keep the 744 on the route?

777ER
I was under the impression that until there was enough aircraft ready that SFO would get the 744's first before LAX-LHR. LAX-LHR takes 3 aircraft to run a daily service so that would mean that only 2 maybe 3 services a week would get an upgraded aircraft until there was more than 1 aircraft reconfigured.

The IFE will have cached websites available, but not live internet or email. However, NZ has requested the system be designed with the capacity to add these features later.

Yes, so SFO is the first route with the 777 and the new peoduct (not including the familiarisation flights probably going trans tasman) when will SIN or HKG see these aircraft?

I guess that SIN and HKG are the next destinations to follow for the 777. To both destinations NZ has big competition in the form of SQ and CX which have a superior product. NZ's other 763 routes to Japan, TPE and the Pacific are not that heavy rivalled.

I have heard it is also doing well and will go to a daily 777, much like AKL-SFO

My parents flew CHC-LAX two weeks after service was inaugurated. They said that the load was real light (tons of open seats). I'm sure that passenger traffic will climb as publicity of this route grows.

02-26-290 is the load tonight as of right now on NZ19 LAX-CHC, if anyone is interested.
Not totally full, but not amazingly empty, either.
We've been having a good run with the new CHC service! Like pilottim747 said, as word-of-mouth spreads about this service (and of the South Island of New Zealand itself as a destination), I'm sure we'll see this service become more popular when it is re-introduced as a 3x/weekly service in November 2005 (beginning in April 2005 and through the end of October 2005, this flight will only operate once-weekly on Sunday's from LAX).

It's an entirely different kind of flying; all together.

>Will the success of AKL-SFO encourage them to fly AKL-PPT-ORD or something like that?<
Probably not for 2 reasons. First, there is already a lot of capacity on the PPT-US routes, all throught LAX, with TN, AF, NZ all operating scheduled services. The biggest customers for those routes are cruise operators and high end package vacation sellers all can route through LAX with usually no more than 1 stop. Since NZ is a STAR member and partner with UA on most of their US domestic flights, they can just route ORD pax through LAX or SFO without having to dedicate equipment or staff to ORD

Personally I would of thought SYD-AKL-ACA-ORD would work really well for NZ.
Mexico City being at Altitude probably isn't realistic for a fully laden 744.
Such a route gives

If SFO-AKL will go 777, won't this flight be weight restricted? I remember flying AKL-LAX on a 777, and about 30 seats had to be left open.
How many seats are usually left open on the CO's EWR-HKG?
