Cathay Pacific's flight CX564
CX564 (Hong Kong /Taipei/ Osaka) landed at Osaka at 19:01 local time without event and the safety of the 148 passengers and 13 crew members on board was not in question. The priority landing was arranged as a precautionary safety measure of the airline.
When the A330 was preparing for a descent on route to Osaka, the number two engine exhibited fluctuating parameters. The cockpit crew followed standard procedures to disconnect the auto thrust system but the engine¡¦s instability remained.
In line with Cathay Pacific¡¦s stringent precautionary safety measures, the crew shut down the number 2 engine and requested priority approach to land.
The incident is under investigation. Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department has been informed of the event.

Actually, it is not a serious incident. But, in the past few months, Cathay involve too many incidents. So the media and the public are very concern the safety of Cathay. Cathay don't want anyone think they try to cover up the events, so they annouce it. Maybe there are more minor incident appear on Cathay's website.
For the incident, is it caused by design problem again?? The previous incidents are caused by design problem, by Cathay spokesman.
