If you know anything about UA and UAX you know that today is the day that all bids are due for the flying we, AWAC, is currently doing for UA. Anyone have any info?

Isn't UAX using JetGo/TranState for some routes?

Trans States has been around for awhile now. Not sure who Jetsgo is but they are not an express carrier.

IIRC from another thread, Jetsgo is a spin-off of Trans States who will be flying CRJ-700's. Although I didn't know it was going to be for UAX...

Someone correct me if I'm wrong though,

Were the bids due in by the close of business today or is the announcement due by the close of business. In all honesty, I respect what UA is doing by offering the contract in a reverse bid. FLYi tried it with smaller things such as catering and other contracts, but I would like to know how this one plays out.

I'm sure all bids are due by close of business today. When UA is going to make up their mind is anyones guess. I'm sure they are going to wait to see two things, if US goes away and if Indy goes away...then the playing field is a bit different....there would be a huge surplus of RJ's sitting around.

It's gojet, not jetgo. They are the alter ego of trans states. similar to mesa freedumb, and republic chq, It's an airline within an airline created to get around scope clauses. The pilots are all TS pilots, Everything is the same execpt the airplanes will be added under another certificate. I think they did bid for 70 seat flying with UAL.

ATWZW170,
gojets was formed as a airline on dec 6th in delaware, in the application to the DOT, they have publicly stated that they will start UAX ops on or about aug 1st 2005, they are a sub of transtates and will start with 5 CRJ700LR a/c, eventually going to 30 a/c after 1 year.the application was filed yesterday and im sure their lawyers in DC smelled something wrong and at 2:41pm yesterday they filed a motion with the DOT to basically supress the application info from the public. i wonder what part ual played in this, 2 days before the deadline and in the application it says that they have a service agreement(contract) already in place with UAL...................

i personally hope that ZW stays around......

Has UA made any annoucements yet? I'm curious to how soon they will make a move with this, if they do, and when it will become effective.

I still say it was just a ploy on the part of UA to get AWAC to drop their price even more. UA probably has no intention of dumping AWAC. I just hope I'm right...I'll miss those 146s!

Honestly, the 146 is a good workhorse, but it is a nightmare for a ground crew trying to load/unload with the wings/engines right in the way. When I used to handle them I hated seeing bags in the front bins because you can't get a bag cart up close, which sucks in inclement weather, and the other problem I have with it, is the way the foward lav compartment is right underneath the main cabin door, which is a paid to service when you have a jetway inches above your head, or even worse a set of air stairs in your way. I will miss Air Wisc. though if they don't get the bid; alot of good people over there.

FlyIbaby,

That's why we approach the plane from the nose-wing-left turn. Never had any complaints from employees except when its really hot and they are in the pit. In fact, most employees I trained *HATED* using the bag loader. Then again, we mostly worked the -300s, and never had any problems with the -200s. Now if you have covered bag carts, that's a diff story and can see you takin out #3 engine.

I'm presently dealing with some frustrations, airline is demanding we use a bag loader for Brasilias ** rips out hair **

Remember, this RFP is not to replace AWAC, but to open a bid for CR7 (CRJ "grande") seat flying. The first airline on this list was AWAC, and it is a chance for UA to negotiate getting more CR7s into the schedule. They are more customer friendly and can serve markets better with a closer seat number to a 737/A319. Besides, when you pay a contract fee that is similiar (if not the same) for a 50 or 70 seater, wouldn't you want to be able to sell more seats?

The CR7 can be outfitted with F class, and more importantly, Econ Plus.

I think UAL owns the 146's, so I don't think we would see them leave. They need the 146's for ASE, biggest aircraft that can land their, they don't want to see it(146) leave the fleet.

The 146's are totally AWAC's. UA does own 5 of our CRJ's. If that is the case, that they want larger aircraft for the same price or around the same price as the CRJ flying, I wish they would just say that. I know we gave UA our bid....and I hope they don't take forever and drag their heels with this. Of course, there has been rumors that UA is going to wait until Jan to see if US Airways actually is going to go under and if Indy Air is going file soon. I'd hate to see AWAC leave UA. That would leave them with just Dash 8 service into a number of mountain cities and bad service from Mesa and other airlines. Not saying that AWAC is the best but if I had to fly on Mesa or AWAC, I'll pick AWAC.

ATWZW170,

I agree. I completely dispise Mesa and their lack of a good operation. Their crews are the biggest to blame. You'd think they would care about keeping their jobs. I didn't care for the ZW crj pilots, but the 146 pilots were great overall. Only one bad experience with one particular captain who just needed to retire. If you see Ginger and Michelle (FA's) flying around, tell them Indy in RDU says hi.

From talking with some folks who are directly and indirectly involved in this process I would not expect to see a decrease but rather an increase in flying on for AWAC. Hope this holds true, I've always thought AWAC was our best express outfit. Good Luck to all the ZW folks out there and I hope when the outcome of the bids is announced we will still see ZW in UAX colors.

Thanks UALGSO. I know ZW has some issues, but for the most part, a good company. Hopefully we will hear something soon.
