Will this be a three class product or two?

I think it will be a 2-class service. The 343s and 332s are are 2-class while the 772s, 773s and 744s are 3-class, with the exception of the 744s being used to replace 743s and 742s on certain routes.

AF will have great connections to/from BEY, but other gates in the Middle East will not be so good vis a vis KL/NW

That's great. Another distraction for me at 5pm as the flight passes over my house. I can't wait to head down to DTW once service starts.

Does anyone know when this starts up? What dates were you looking up online?

The service starts on the 9th of May from that info that I have. I wonder how this is going to affect BA, LH and especially NW who is AF's ST partner.

I think it will have a positive effect on both sides of the Atlantic, with Air France feeding Northwest's world hub at DTW to a great number of North American destinations served by the US carrier. At the same time, AF would gain access to the seizable market of Michigan towards Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Good Luck to Air France!

This should push Air France-KLM ahead of Delta to be the fourth largest carrier across the Atlantic in terms of available seats.

Wow thats cool, I wish I could see it. I been waiting for AF to come to DTW for years while I was living up there. Too bad its an A330 though. I am glad to see any AF aircraft, but spotting wise DTW has plenty of A330s with Northwest and LH using them as of lately.

It would be nice if it were a 772 or A343 since DTW is short of those two aircraft.

Shoot, it's starting too late for me!

I will still have to change at ORD, I am booked on Feb 17 DTW-ORD-CDG on AF

Well, not long ago I predicted that we would never see AF at DTW....WRONG again.

So now we'll have a 440pm departure to CDG on Air France, and a 920pm departure on NW...great.

Hopefully, the next carrier to announce new service from DTW is.....Mexicana.

while the 772s, 773s and 744s are 3-class, with the exception of the 744s being used to replace 743s and 742s on certain routes.

All Hunchbacks are going 2class... only the T7s and the A388s will retain 3.

With NW joining SkyTeam, one would think DTW would have a much better shot at getting Aeromexico (a fellow SkyTeam member), rather than the alliance-less Mexicana.

There was some talk a while back about both Mexicana and Aeromexico coming to DTW.

Has AF dropped CVG service? I think they may have a while back, but cannot remember.

Whats everyone opinion? Will this helpor hurt NW? Was this done with getting NW to shut down their flight or augment it? Only 4:40 apart is a little close but may help connections to a different direction. Is the NW flight seasonal only? What about the AF?

It will augment it. Currently Northwest flights to France are O and D flights on the European side, while on the American side they are connections. With Air France coming to DTW- the American side will be the O and D side and Europe will be the connecting side.

I believe Air France offers a lot of connections to the Middle East and Detroit Area has a HUGE (and i believe the largest in USA) Muslim population that would connect to various Middle Eastern countries. Currently the only Middle Eastern airline is RJ. KLM has some connections at AMS, Lufthansa at FRA but Air France will offer even more.

Didn't Delta and Air France both fly between CVG and CDG in the past? Detroit is a larger city than Cincinnati.

Yes, AF has dropped CVG twice, most recently this past September. However, AF is resuming CVG on the same day that DTW-CDG starts. CVG will be a daily A340.
