Aerolineas Internacionales, Do You Remember Them?

Certainly I do. Maybe because they were the first airline I ever flew and by all means it was a great flight. I didn't really know them, but they were the cheaper option flying from MEX to TIJ, summer 1998. It was a 727 in good shape, nice interiors and cute FA. We left on time and they gave us a really good breakfast. No IFE, of course, but it was quite cheap after all. My flight back was in TAESA, which left TIJ with a four hours delay... Enough said.

I miss them. We need cheap and efficient options in Mexico's aviation.

I do remember aerolineas Internacionales never had the pleasure of flying with them but I remember seeing its special scheme 727 in Mex. Do you think Mexico needs a low cost airline. I think that we should have one like goal in Brazil.

Unfortunately, they were what you call Mexico's version of Aero Continente. Investigations after the airline was shut down found that the airline was actually a money-laundering operation. The company's name, its business license, and its bank accounts were used to disguise the proceeds from the drug operations from which its owners had founded the airline.

The airline did concentrate on transporting people to the border. Going as far as opening a ticket office in Southern California.

Aerolineas Internacionales was far from being an operation that resembled a true LLC operation such as GOL. Aerolineas was just an airline that was started without any real planning, without any real goal. Just look at the type of operation Aerolineas ran just by looking at the pictures of its planes on a.net and by inspecting its route map. Nothing to do with a true LLC concept, in my opinion, the people running the show thought that the operation could be run just like a Mexican bus company operating out of a central camionera (bus station), a far cry from the operations like those of GOL, EasyJet, or Southwest are based upon.

Aerolineas Internacionales could also be called the Tower Air of Mexico.  Laugh out loud

The benefit of course was that they did make more competition, and thus lowered fares on the routes they flew. My only hope is that the ex employees, like the pilots and aircraft mechanics have found new oportunities.

Flew with them from León to Juárez in march 2003. The bumpiest flight I have ever had!! The F/A were very nice but the plane (727-200) didn´t seem to be in very good shape. I think it´s better and safer they are out of business now!!

BTW, their livery absolutely sucked!!

I flew them in 2000 and 2002 and liked the bus style athmosphere Apollo hints at. I wrote trip reports about it. A 727-100 full of people drinking hard liquor at 10 am ! But being it a money laundry thing of course is inexcuseable.
The planes were old but sectors like Mexico City-Aguascalientes or Tijuana-Hermosillo were only $50ish on them while since they gone bust you almost fly nowhere within Mexico below $125 one way. I hope this GOL style thing comes soon.
I am in central America right now and while domestic flights in for instance Guatemala, Honduras and Belize are easy and cheap, but there are few and expensive flights BETWEEN central american countries, so I hope a LCC will play a role here as well. TACA can be affordable sometimes but they have those ¨overdue¨ round trip requirements and so.

Lucky you MEA-707!! I always wanted to fly Internacionales B727-100s before something bad happened to those 727s (not accidents, Im talking about retirement due to longevity or retirement for spare parts for other 727s) or the airline going bankrupt! Unfortunately the second happened first! A few more months and probably I would have flown on them. A very cheesy service and LCC model, true, but TAESA's and Internacionales low cost models are very necessary for this country! We deserve and need more competition among our airlines!
