Dear a.net experts,

I am flying into RSW in February and trying to look for some terminal information. Unfortunately, RSW does not have a website and looking at my airplane.com. I only know that they have one runway and one terminal building.

I am possibly flying Jetblue or United. Do you guys have any information, regarding which concourse these airlines use? Or is RSW a pretty simple airport with one single concourse? What are the food options there? Any particular fast food joints in or outside of the secured area?

Thanks,
Carfield

Carfield,

This is likely because Southwest Florida International Airport serves Fort Myers, not Fort Meyers.

Technically, there is no Ft. Myers airport, SWFI is considered an airport for the region. Afterall it serves Ft. Myers, Bonita Beach, Naples, Punta Gorda, Sanibel, Captiva etc. Of course that's if you want to get anal about it.  Big grin

EDIT: Oh yeah you're original questions I forgot. RSW has two concourses but it's really one that's been divided in half. Concourse A and Concourse B. It's a pretty small airport so you shouldn't have any trouble getting around. Since the secured areas are rather small there aren't many options there but there's a Burger King I think and a few others outside of security. Don't plan on eating at the airport though, I wouldn't reccommend it anyway.

Well, there is an GA airport IN Ft. Meyers, called either Paige Field, or Page Field.

Just because RSW says it serves the region of southwest Florida does not make it so.

RSW serves Ft. Myers. There is no shame in that.

BWI serves Baltimore.

ICT certainly does not serve the "mid-continent" whatever that means. It serves Wichita.

By the way, Naples also has a commercial airport, if I am not mistaken.

I know it is small matter ...  Smile/happy/getting dizzy I just like to be precise.

Freddie Laker ... May be at peace with his maker ... But he is a persona non grata ... with IATA

Naple's does have a cool airport, not that its busy, but it looks like it should belong in Lego land. It has a mini baggage belt and a really small terminal, which makes my house look huge.

Looking forward to the new AA

You'd be surprised the area that RSW serves, it's certainly not JUST Ft. Myers. The closest airport with mainline jet service is either SRQ or TPA and they're both a good two hours by car. FLL and MIA are even farther away. Naples does have an airport but it's rather small.

Does anyone know if any of the majors service Naples? I'd think it'd be too close to RSW for anyone to bother.

Delta connection serves APF to ATL, and Cape Air does as well and operates as CO express to MIA. Its my home airport.

The new terminal is opening soon, scheduled in spring of 2005. I haven't checked as to the exact date.

Just flew out of RSW last week. I remember flying over this airport several years after it was built and seeing only 1 BN 727 parked at the terminal. Looked like a white elephant at the time. Now they're close to completing a brand new terminal on the south side of the field. It still isn't all that busy and I'm not sure of why they really need to expand. Sure is a huge expense for county taxpayers. Oh yeah, the TSA employees down there seem to range in age from 65 on up.

RSW really is a seasonal destination. Wait until after X-Mas and the season gets into swing, DL alone sent 11 full 763s down there a day during the season from ATL. I flew a DL 763 last March and once you experience 22x some odd people crammed into one of those tiny gate areas, you'll see the need for an expansion. Plus a few airlines are expanding pretty heavily there, I know USA3000 is one of them.

Flew into RSW last month. The new terminal looks great from across the field. It looks to be needed as the existing terminal is quite dated and small, especially if a couple of 763's, a handful of 757's, and an LTU A330 are there all about the same time.

Direct KNOBS, maintain 2700' until established on the localizer, cleared ILS runway 26 left approach.
