Interesting.
At first I thought you must have been mistaken, as I have never heard of any AC SXM service - But then I checked the schedule and you are right. And it's not a codeshare or anything like that.
I can only assume that it's a brand new flight. The current schedule just took effect on Friday, so the first flight sould probably have been saturday. (EDIT: Apparently it is next saturday, thanks FLYYUL.)
However, I have not heard any mention of this flight on these forums and there doesn't seem to be any kind of release on AC's website. Very strange! I guess it is mostly a flight for vacation packages (very charter-ish although it is, of course, scheduled). I hope it is successful because that will certainly simplify getting to SXM for canadians. (No need to connect in the US). Of course, there were alredy some charter services available with other carriers, but this is a welcome addition.
On the other hand I have just looked at the fares and they tend to be quite a bit higher than connecting with US or AA.

The last time I went to the Caribbean was for a short contract in the Turks & Caicos Islands. I flew AC, which was unheard of (especially for the $609cdn we paid, usually it is 1000usd+ via MIA on AA). Are these flights going to be cheap(er) than the other choices? I can't wait to see the tube of toothpaste flying into SXM's Maho beach. We'll see if the new livery will match the water colour! Wish I could go back... either place is fine, PLS, GDT or SXM!

Sort of off topic, but is UA still planning on running a 752 on ORD-SXM starting in January?

Is the AC service to SXM going to be just seasonal?

United's service between ORD and SXM starts Dec 18. Runs Saturdays only. Scheduled until sometime in April I believe.
